You can use infant ibuprophen 50mg/1.25 ml. Can you post a picture?
We typically dose by weight in grams of the squirrel.

Sending you a pm now with what I think a conservative estimate of 600 grams
would be.

How did he lose a toe nail, just curious not judging :) Also what is his diet? Are you following the recommended diet?

He was out of his cage playing I’m not sure what he lost it on . I use the food pyramid , two nuts a day and two blocks a day . I know he’s a fatty and I’m working on trimming him down . He still Wants formula before bed at night also .

From the photo you've attached it is evident that your squirrel is overweight. As our veterinarian group counseled us years ago in regard to a squirrel we had cared for which was moderately obese; a diet too high in fats from grains (also high in phosphorus) lends to the same ill health disorders that commonly occur in domestic pets fed diets too high fat and protein, of which nuts for tree squirrels are a key source. Including more than (1/2 Tsp.) of chopped nuts daily for (southern Gray squirrel subspecies) cared for in captivity, lends to the progressive deterioration of kidney, liver, cardiovascular, metabolic bone health over their lifetime, lending to reaching an earlier mortality.

I only give him two a day but I’ll take that away from him . I don’t know why he’s overweight. The other two are on the same diet and not overweight . I can also take him off the formula at night .

How much formula is he taking? I would hate for you to take him off formula,
as that is such a great deterrent against MBD.
I wonder if it's the way he's sitting that makes him look larger.
I overwintered some squirrels several years back. All from the same litter,
all ate the exact same thing. One nut daily.
One of the girls was HUGE and there was no explanation why
as they all ate extremely healthy, according to the food chart.
I will try to find pictures and post one.

He takes 7ml at night. I can get another picture of him but he is overweight I have no doubt . I just don’t know why . He’s plenty active . Do they get thyroid conditions ? I guess he would have other symptoms if that was a issue tho . He has no heath problems other than the weight issue

He really looks great to me.
I so wished I could find the pictures of the little ones
I was talking about. I will keep looking.
Quick short story. I was babysitting island rehabbers
little ones. She brought me 2 "little" girls whose eyes
were still closed and they both weighed over 200 grams.
I remember telling her, I didn't know if she wanted me to
babysit them or release them, they were SO huge.
The following year, I got in 4 little ones. ALL of them were
over 200 grams before their eyes opened. Prior to that
most were ~ 100-120 grams when they opened their eyes.
I think these little squirrels come in all shapes and sizes. :)
Does you little one eat all of his healthy veggies? Does
he eat block? Do you have food available to him all of the time?
I think he looks great. But I do know as with humans, being
overweight can be detrimental.
I know that rats can have a thyroid disorder, so I suspect
the same is true with squirrels.

He loves his veggies and Henry’s picky blocks . He’s not a fan of fruits but may nibble on a slice of apple Occasionally . I do leave some veggies in his cage for a midnight snack . I’m totally new to squirrels. Harvard was my first ,then came Lucy she’s a NR nuro she’s a normal size , and then came rose a abandoned Emaciated 6 week old . No problems with her weight either. I agree I think they do come in different sizes but I agree he’s could lose some weight. I’d love to see the photos if you find them. Looking at everyone’s babies is my favorite part of the squirrel board and rooting them on .

Jerri, how old was your squirrel when you took the photos of him on your shoulder;
and how old was he when you took the photo of him sitting facing the camera?
