One of my wild female fox squirrels came by today for a treat. I gave her an english walnut in the shell. I noticed she was having trouble biting in to it so I tossed her a pecan in the shell. She dropped the walnut and took the pecan. She was able to eat the pecan in the shell just fine. She looks healthy and a normal weight. I'm not sure how old she is but she has been coming by for 2 years on and off. She use to be able to eat english walnuts in the shell just fine. Does anyone know what could cause her to have trouble eating a shelled english walnut and if there is anything I can do to help her?

Can you get a look at her teeth? Some of my wilds will choose one type of in shell nut over another, if given the option, so maybe there’s nothing wrong with her.

She stays about an arms length away from me to get a nut still. I have to toss her nuts to her. I will try to get a good look at her teeth today. Thanks
