I recently received a newborn baby squirrel from a woman who said her dog brought it to her in its mouth. She said he was carrying it kind of gently, not biting it. It has 2 small superficial cuts and some small light bruises. See attached photos.

Is it 1 day old ? It has a black dot where the umbilical cord was.

Does it need antibiotics ?

I have read that if a cat bites it, it must receive antibiotics. But this one was "carried" to its owner by a dog. It is noisier than the other 2 newborns. It weighs 34g and the other 2 weigh 40g. It has been warmed, but won't really drink hydrating solutions or esbilac. I have had it for 4 hours.

I wouldn’t use antibiotics on this one. Have you tried the homemade hydration fluid? They seem to prefer it over Pedialyte. You might have better luck with it. If that’s what you are using you might have to go drop by drop until the hydration is up. Dehydration affects the appetite.

It’s older than a day old. It isn’t totally pink. I see a hint of gray on the skin. It could be 7-10 days old.
Also, the weight would indicate at least a week old.
