Thanks for all your previous help, people. I'm new to squirreldom and I was given a Southern Flyer about six or nine months ago.
To reiterate: I went away for a week and boarded my squirrel. When I came back, he was a little freaked and was awake at odd hours (ie: during the day, early morning). I've given him some time to get back to normal -- it's been about three weeks.
The problem is he's suddenly AWAKE on and off during the day, when he NEVER woke up before 9 or 10 PM before. He pokes his head out in the morning when I come downstairs to feed the parrots (they share a room, though NOT a cage!) and even runs on the wheel or "begs" me to take him out with his little paw through the cage.
I've gotten "full spectrum" lamps for both him and the birds. I keep it on for about four hours during the day. (I can't take him outside as I live in California. Yes, I KNOW I probably shouldn't have him but his previous owner smuggled him in from out of state and was going to release him -- where he would have died.) I've also upped his fresh fruit and veggies. But, I'm worried about his being awake. I thought these l'il guys were nocturnal.
Am I just being an overly neurotic parent?
Thanks for the help, in advance!
