I’ve recently taken in an orphaned grey squirrel and have been looking after him as researched online and when he poops I’ve been cleaning it with cotton balls and warm water however he’s bottom and the base of his tail has become red raw and looks a bit sore. He doesn’t seem to be in pain but I’m not sure if I should continue to clean him or leave him to do it alone?

If his eyes are still closed he needs to be stimulated to potty with each formula feeding.

Yes, you can clean his bottom and put some neosporin ointment on it if you believe it is warranted.

If you could post a picture of his situation it would be most helpful.

Sorry it’s not a great photo, his eyes are open so we’re no longer stimulating him.

Is he having diarhea? What formula are you feeding him?

I think he is yes, they’re not solid. We’re feeding him TopLife puppies milk at the moment. Would pediolyte help the diarrhoea?

Pedialyte is always a good idea when dealing with diarrhea. Do not use the ones with food coloring.

The diarrhea is likely cause by the puppy milk you are using. Here in the states the only puppy milk that squirrels do well on is Esbilac. I am not sure if that is available in the UK?

I know some of our European friends have had success with the "Royal Canin".

Here is a pic of the only puppy formula we recommend stateside:
