Is the list under Healthy Diet for Squirrels the only trees that are safe, or just a few of favorites? We have a fallen sweet gum tree with big, juicy buds ; was wondering if they like these or if toxic?
Also have many red buds blooming; seems like I already asked that once but can’t remember :(

Be sure to read all the sub notes on seeds vs. woods, as not all woods, of which the seeds are non toxic are also, and vise versa.
Buds may also be toxic in trees that the seeds aren't. I would do research or don't offer them to your squirrels.
Though Sweet gum is not noted on theses lists. You should read the connection though on birds and diseases to the seeds.

The list of safe woods for rats is much the same as it is for Gerbils.
A couple exceptions on both are Bamboo, and Kiwi, both very high in oxalates.

I would also leave out honeysuckle based upon info also included on that source.

Ok , better not risk it. Tossed them back to the woods . We do have some some oak buds that are safe; will just stick to them for now. Thanks DF 🙂
