I got a big bag of plain black oil sunflower seeds from tractor supply, found it in the bird food section. I got it for my chickens but I was wondering could I feed them to my grey squirrel? Are they healthy for them?
Thanks!

Step,

I feed all my released squirrels BOSS every day and once the rehab kids go to solids I let them have some 2x a week. NR's get some every other week, I've never had a problem, isn't that okay?

I know many do feed regular sunflower seed as well as BOSS.
Individual preference, I'm not making a judgement call...
The question was "Are they healthy for them?"
BOSS also contains a large amount of potassium:
Amount (per 1 lb) Calcium 527.43 mg - Potassium 3132.75 mg
If one is trying to achieve the 2:1 balance calcium to phosphorus
I'd still have to answer no, they are not a healthy source of food
for squirrels considering that ratio.
