There is a small squirrel with some fur, but the fur looks very thin and short on the tree next to Johnston Gate at Harvard University. It is pictured in the attachment, middle of picture top of frame. I do not have a better camera with me right now so you might need to be here to see it.

I am wondering if this squirrel is too small or has too little fur to thrive or survive in this weather. One of the eyes looked a little bit squinty. Thankfully the squirrel was making a sound between an alarm and a cry. I hope the mother is on her way!

I am not a rehabber, just a concerned person.

(Johnston gate is the gate next to Church Street into Harvard Yard.)

I can't really tell from the photo if this squirrel needs help?

Do you pass that way regularly? If so, try to get an closer photo. The squirrel could have Mange which can be easily treated with a medicated treat (like a pecan piece). We can help dosing if needed.

Here is a list of rehabbers in Mass

I agree with the potential mange, however I have some good news. Amazingly, it is much warmer now since the wind stopped. And the squirrel is down from the tree eating happily (no more squinting) in the lawn. I will keep an eye on him, but I think he will be fine. If there is mange, it doesn't seem to be life threatening right now. Thank you very much for your reply!
