I rescued an easter gray squirrel about a month ago and I recently moved her to her own room. The room has a distinct rodent smell to it and I'd like to put a room / air freshener in there. I know they have very sensitive noses. Is a natural air freshener I can use that won't harm her? Thanks!

I avoid air fresheners.
What type of bedding are you using? Some are better than others.
Bottom line... squirrels do stink but there are ways to make it not quite so bad.
By the way... Welcome to TheSquirrelBoard.
I work in Tampa. :)

Thank you!
I use blankets and towels that I change about twice per week.

Recommended (cloth) bedding for squirrels; Fleece, t-shirt type material, sheets, pillowcases.
No towels or other material types that has loops. Their claws tend to get caught in the loops and
can cause serious damage to their toes /paws.

No air fresheners! Any place she pees should have something washable on it that can be swapped out daily for a clean one. The best way to avoid the smells is to get the urine out of the room daily via laundry, not try to cover it with another scent. It CAN be done - I am a clean freak with a really good nose and almost never smell my guys.

I change my fleece cage covers three times a week for smell. I have been told using natural lavender flowers were fine near the cages but I have never done it and would not without additional approval from someone more experienced than me. I sure wash a lot of laundry every week! Lol
