Hi . I’m his wife .and is good, a little in shock .we try to give it some water but don’t, is in a box, warm and I will put a sock with warm rice in a couple of min. Has his backs legs paralyzed, but I have faith his gonna be ok cause I love squirrel ..we need advise about how to make him feel better and with less pain. It ok give him a baby aspirin ? Besides the water ,what ca. We give it ? I read banana for the shock ? That’s works?
Thank you for any advise and the concern .i have a picture if you need .

I was thinking a banana slice might help a bit because I know there is electrolytic imbalance after shock. I figured it was unlikely that he could drink from a bowl, and bananas have potassium and some other minerals plus some moisture. Potassium is an electrolyte. Another thing you could do if you have a dropper or oral syringe is make some ORS according to the following recipe
1 Quart or Liter of drinking or boiled Water
5 cupfuls (each cup about 200 ml.)
Quarter (1/4) teaspoon of Salt
Quarter (1/4) teaspoon Baking Soda (bicarbonate of soda).
Two (2) tablespoons of Sugar or Honey
You could dissolve a tiny dose of aspirin in it and give that orally with a dropper, but for an animal this size the dose would be around 10 mg and then repeat every 3 hours. That's a very small amount. You should be careful about giving too much as rodents respond more strongly to NSAIDs like aspirin than we do, and they can have a blood thinning effect for them which is dangerous in too high doses.
Give it warm and be gentle. You're helping just by giving him a quiet and peaceful place.

No (more) aspirin! Infant liquid ibuprofen is what you need.
Any chance for antibiotics? Predisone is highly recommended for paralysis.
Shock causes low blood sugar, rubbing molasses (best) or another
syrup sweetener, honey etc. on his gums will raise it's blood sugar.
Home made recipe for hydration, keeping hydrated is very important.
Re-hydration fluid:
1 teaspoon salt
3 Tablespoons sugar
1 quart water.
Also attaching link to squirrel care. Go to this link this is a HUGE help.

Just to clarify things:
Ibuprofen is another NSAID, and rodents are very sensitive to them, as I mentioned. Stepnstone did not include dosing info for ibuprofen, but you must be extremely careful to give an appropriate dose for the animal's size, like I posted before. They can thin blood and increase bleeding if too much is given.
The recipe that was posted is for the same purpose as the one I posted before. It's an ORS.
Prednisone is a steroid. Of course you won't have access to that, but hopefully a wildlife rehabber can be found who is near to you and can help with meds like that.

Since all medicatios are dosed by weight, Stepnstone did not have a weight to give a proper dose.

I sent Ibuprofen dosing instructions or 400gm and 450gm squirrel via PM. If you can weigh him all the better.
If you can find any of these steroids Prednisone, Prednisolone or Dexamethasone that is his best chance for recovery.
Here the thing though: You cannot give Ibuprofen and these meds together... you have to wait 24 hours after the last dose of Ibuprofen before the first dose of steroids.
So please exhaust your contacts / efforts to fins steroids before starting the ibuprofen. The ibuprofen dose have some anti-inflammatory properties so if you cannot locate any steroids this could help him.

These steroid meds require a prescription before you can complete your order.
Ask around to family and friends to see if they have any of these medications by chance. If not, then you can start the ibuprofen.
You would be giving the steroid or the ibuprofen, but not both together at the same time.

Yes, if you found someone who will sell it privately then I think you should get it. You are really putting your heart into this. Bless you for that. Make sure you get the dose size of that tablet because it will be needed to figure out what the right amount is for the squirrel. Adult squirrels weigh about a pound, so the dose has to be scaled way down from the dose that a dog or human would get.
A rehabber from the list that was posted in reddit before is likely to have better access to meds. Have you tried to reach anyone?

Since the Prednisone is on its way it would be a good idea to get a weight on the squirrel so the medication can be precisely dosed. :thumbsup

I will tomorrow morning...it’s moving much better and at least his tail it’s ok. Sometimes he move one of the legs when I grab him, and it’s sleping like a frog a couple of times that’s mean he’s having better recovery or not?
It’s eating baby food his favorite is avocado ,pear and pineapple ,drinking more water and I’m giving him ensure butter pecan.
Loves peanuts and grapes peeled

Can I assume you do know it's a he and he is able to void both urine and bowel ok?
If he is wetting himself be sure to keep him cleaned off so he does not get urine scald.

Either...
Wipes are ok as long as they are not perfume scented (if they even come that way) :dono

Thank you so much stepnstone for all the tips, advices and for the medicine who will come Friday, today al 12 pm it’s gonna be the last dose for ibuprofen .
I need make a lot of questions cause I’m very concern about being neglected and off course I want him alive.
He has troubles for sleep ,that’s normal?
I know that squirrels can sleep 12 hours but in normal habitat.
He likes being down the towel all the time.
I don’t know if I’m giving enough water .
There’s a schedule about the water ? Every how many hours I should give him?
I give him banana, apple and nuts, ensure pecan butter ,baby food (he’s favorite ) but there a quantity I should give him per day?
The heating pad:
It’s ok in low?
Under him or under the towel?
Sorry about the several question I have. I hope somebody or all can answer me.
Thank you
Use this set up for him. Plastic container with holes, lots of fleece or t shirts inside for him to pee into and burrow under. Heating pad should be under HALF of the bin (never in the bin) and set on low at all times. He can choose to be on the heated half or move to the cooler side if needed. There is a photo of this here: https://www.henryspets.com/baby-squirrel-care/
You can provide water at all times using a shallow dish (again why a larger space would be beneficial). You can weigh it with small rocks inside and the water on top. Here is a list of foods they can have that are safe for him. https://thesquirrelboard.com/forums/showthread.php?44440-Healthy-Diet-for-Pet-Squirrels
A gram scale is also a kitchen scale which can be bought at most big box stores for under $20. It is useful for dosing meds but you can also determine if you are feeding enough because you can weigh daily to be sure he's keeping his weight up.
If you are willing to take him somewhere we can see if there are squirrel safe vets in your area willing to x ray and examine him.
You don't need to use the ORS or homemade pedialyte solution for more than 24-48 hours. It's used during first response and he should be on only water now.
As always, keep him in a safe container with more light or a cage, off the ground and away from pets, noise and children to reduce stress. Stress will impede healing and recovery.

Do not forget to post a weight as soon as possible. Last thing you want is to wait around hours or days for dosing information on the Prednisone after you stop the ibuprofen!

A simple typing "(weight in lbs or ounces) = grams? " into Google will convert it for her!

Thank for helping out with meds. As some of you might know, this one was passed on to a local rehab facility. I asked the finder to please update me with news re was the squirrel euthanized or not, but she has not heard yet. Hopefully will have news soon.
