I’ve been looking for him for about 10 hours! I’m beyond an emotional reck at this point.. He usually hides but I eventually find him but I have looked everywhere! I’m also worried because my screen has been slightly ripped I’m afraid he may of realized it, but I also doubt he’d jump out a second floor window.. I’ve been looking around outside just in case with no luck.. Is there anything that I can put out that’ll coax him out of where ever he may be? I pray he’s just asleep in my room somewhere but I’ve never not found him before. Please help!

I know this isn't much consolation but yes, they will jump out of a second story window. I would be looking outside. If he was inside he would have come out by now.

It’s been cold and raining, any particular places you know if they’d like to hide out in ? I’m going back outside to look right now.

Look any place that he could shelter in. If there are parked cars, the engine compartment comes to mind. Of course, that is an especially dangerous place to hide.

I assume there are trees? They can hide in plain site in a tree and are difficult to see. Call out to him. Shake the treat jar if you have one. Go outside armed with nuts. They smell them.

None of this makes sense, the screens been like that for awhile now.. I’ve looked at all my neighbors bushes, under cars, under porches, trees, my yard etc... I’m going to leave some nuts in a bowl outside on the porch and hopefully get him to come if he is outside. He was always scared of being outside whenever I took him out.. I just don’t see why, if he has, he’d even go outside.. I just really want my baby back and hopefully I do find him..

I'm sorry this happened. My spring singleton got out of a second floor window months ago and released herself.

How old is this squirrel?

Still nothing... I’m heart broken.

He’s about a year old now I’d say.

I’ll guess I’ll have to try when it stops raining probably..

I saw the weather for your area. It looks dreadful. He will not come out as long as the weather is torrential. It described it as a Nor'Easter. I didn't even know that was possible in Oct.

When the weather clears, you'll have your best chance at finding him. I'm sure you've continued to search inside. Is there any chance he could have entered a vent or the attic?

Don't give up. I hope you find your friend. :grouphug

Yeah, it’s making it so much harder to look for him with the heavy wind and rain. The weather for tomorrow looks like it’ll be clearing up, so I’ll be up all night until it’s light enough to go out and look for him again. Going to have a friend join me in looking. I really hope he’s okay, he had to of picked the worst possible time to go missing, the weather is just adding to my anxiety at the moment. I’ve tore out everything in my closet, shook out all the clothing, blankets, and have been listening in rooms to see if he may of found a way into the walls, which I’m not even sure there is one but I know squirrels will always find a way. He’s just never not come out of hiding before that’s why I’m scared he either jumped or fell out of the screen. I worried if he did he would be injured from such a drop. I can’t stand the thought of being without this little guy, my heart is legitimately shattering with each minute.

Is this a gray or a flyer?

Thank you. Praying when this weather stops I’ll be able to find him.. I’ve left food on a plate out front with a big rock so the wind won’t blow it away like it did with the nuts I tried leaving out there. I legit feel like I’ve lost a child. I can’t focus on anything else but if he’s okay and where he is.

One of my boys escaped the cage when I was at work one day. Took me a while to find him. I called for what felt like forever with no luck. Then I just got lucky and found him in my plantation shutters behind the curtain. I got lucky I found him there. Otherwise he would have stayed put until he was ready. I say this because it could be
possible he’s still inside and just doesn’t feel like leaving his hidey hole. I hope he is!

I’m praying he is that’s why I’m still keeping my door closed just in case he is somewhere in hiding. I’d rather him just be hiding somewhere than the worst case scenario outside God only knows where.. I’m trying everything to stay positive at this point. You guys have been more than helpful more than you know! Thank you all so much! The first bit of sunrise and I’ll be outside sweeping the neighborhood again, climbing every tree possible.

I am sorry that your buddy is still missing. Below is a link to possible places that a squirrel can disappear while still inside your home. It is another series of areas to search. Try to reduce all external noise and then listen carefully at the hidden openings. You might hear scratching ( ? ) and then use food to tempt him out--
Praying for a sighting.

Alright so I’m looking outside for him now, seen two squirrels so far, but both have ran off so I’m not sure if it’s him or not. Going to keep looking around now. Finger crossed!

There’s so many squirrels out, I’m like running in peoples back yards.. Would he normally come to me or run away?

How old us he?

SammysMom

He may be frightened and run. Dont chase, lure. If you could put his cage outside he might actually go into it if he smells familiar smells.

CLK

He’s about a year old. And I’m scared to put a cage out and something else move in. Do you think he will actually go to the cage though?

I would take the screen off the window he went OUT of and leave that window open enough for him to return. And I would do that for a while, not just today. They are so freaking smart. He knows how he got out!

CLK
10-28-2018, 10:03 AM
It’s pretty high up there’s nothing he could really climb up to in order to get back to the window. I’m going to try putting the cage out and see what happens.

SammysMom
10-28-2018, 10:34 AM
Put a ladder or limb that he could use to get in the window if possible

I’ve just put the cage out with food inside. Let’s see if this will work.

CLK

Dahm it! I put the cage outside and squirrel came and smelled it but I should of waited until he got in the cage to go outside! He ran next door, I think it maybe might of been him! Do you think he will come back a second time? I hope I didn’t just blow it!

CLK

Still waiting by door checking to see if he will come back. And if it was actually him or not. But so far nothing. I hope if it was him he’d come back again tonight, a thunder storm again tomorrow possibly which would make it again hard to find him.

Oh such a hard thing to cope with... :sad
Is there a reason he was non releasable or is he ok physically?

Another unsuccessful day. Trying again tomorrow, hopefully it won’t rain to much. :(

Wondering the same thing, Is he physically okay?

Yes but he grew on me and I was intending on keeping him I couldn’t picture just putting him out either.

It will be raining on and off today, I’ve put two tarp like things over the top and back of his cage, two of his blankets and some food. Not sure if he’ll even want to come out due to the rain but I’m still going to try again.

I am not an expert, but from what I have read on this site is that squirrels once mature, which it sounds like yours is, most WANT to be outside in the trees where they belong. So if there was no physical or mental reason for him to be non released, he may have found his opportunity to get out in the trees.

Hope you find him though, i know how devistated I would be.

CLK

There’s a way of which your supposed to release them. Plus he’s been so pampered I’m not sure he’d even know how to make it out there. Don’t get me wrong if he’s happy out there, that’s one thing, I’m okay with that completely. But if he didn’t jump out and simply fell and is now just lost somewhere it just makes me feel horrible.

But yeah it stopped raining , tons of squirrels running up to his cage for the food inside. Not sure if any of them were him. This area just has so many squirrels which makes it harder. :meh

I suppose at one point I’ll just pray and hope he will be okay wherever he is. And buy a squirrel feeder so at least if he’s ever hungry I’ll have food around for him. The only hope I have for now is the fact that something is eating the banana chips he loves, that I’m leaving around unlike the other squirrels who didn’t seem to care much for it.

When six month old Sylvia ran out on me she was living in the lap of microfiber luxury, watching Netflix every night and playing with toddler toys...then she saw an opportunity at freedom and didn't stop to say goodbye.

I think she is fine and I'm happy she is free, although I did cry for a week after she left. It gets easier, I promise.
