I have a female flier around 5 years old. She is normally very active and was through this afternoon. She has been eating well and her weight has remained stable at 2.8 oz.
Late this afternoon, she was sleeping, I put a couple roses in her cage along with some pieces of apple, maple limb for her to chew on. She always likes to tear apart roses. I went down to feed her about an hour ago and she was laying in the bottom of the cage. she had torn up the roses but had not chewed the wood. Her eyes are partly closed and she doesn't want to move. I don't see any thing else unusual about her appearance. She doesn't seem to be as warm as normal. She crawled into my shirt and does not want to move. Any thoughts on what to do?

The roses weren't sprayed were they? No thorns?

Have you checked the pouches for stashed blocks? I had an issue a couple weeks ago with a visiting flyer. Flyer got real sick and quit eating. Apparently he had stopped eating his block and was hiding them. Without the block they just don't get enough calcium. Their worms (high phosphorus) makes getting the calcium even more important. He was on flyer blocks. I started giving him a 1/2 warmed Picky Eater block BEFORE his evening plate. He ate them willingly and is much better. I thought I was going to lose him. I also was adding powdered calcium carbonate to his food.

The main thing is keep him warm. Hydrate if possible. Will he drink formula?
He doesn't have seizures does he?

She eats blocks but often shreds them so it is hard to tell how much she eats, I know she picks out the small bits of nuts. She has taken formula from the time she was a baby. The roses may have been sprayed in the mid summer with mineral oil and water but nothing stronger than that. She has always eaten roses and rose hips. She was fine this afternoon, running around like crazy.

I'm not sure what the problem is. All you can do is keep her warm and hydrated and see if she comes around. You could also give her a little honey, molasses or syrup to raise her blood sugar.

Have you been feeding enough PROTEIN?
FS need Protein in their Diet to be Healthy.

....... I feed dehydrated chicken called: PURE BITES

from your description, it sounds like a reaction to something that was in/on the roses or the maple tree branchlet.

has she regained strength today? or has her condition remained the same?

maybe there was an insect in one of the roses that she ate and didn't agree with her?

you might want to consider super-hydrating her to help flush out anything she may have ingested that didn't agree with her.

thanks for the posts. The next day she was back to normal, no idea what the problem was. Really thought she was a goner.
