Please someone help!! We found a baby squirrel today that some kids were throwing stones at it. They were saying it is paralyzed so they were doing it a favor. After we chased them off, we took the baby home with us. It is eating peanuts and apples just fine. In fact it really loves apples. I am syringe feeding it water as I am not sure it can figure out the water bottle that I have put in there yet. It seems very lethargic and tired. We did bathe it with tee tree wash that we have for our ferret as it had lots of bugs on it. That helped greatly and it seemed to help it relax a bit more. It can climb the sides of the cage that we put it in. I am not sure yet if the back leg on the left is injured or not. For being a wild animal it is very very very docile and doesn't fight back at all. It did bite my husband once in the bath as we were cleaning him but since then it hasn't hardly moved around. We came home around 5pm. Which I know is getting close to night time so maybe the poor baby is just one exhausted from being up all day but also from the trauma it experienced today? I am seriously hoping that the reason for it being so exhausted isn't related to those kids and the stones. I am hoping that the poor thing is alright. There is also 2 puncture wounds on its left shoulder that look like teeth marks but maybe could have been from a sibling before the ordeal took place. Could have been attacked before the kids found it? I am not sure exactly.. All I know is what those kids did and what we are doing now. We cleaned the wounds on it's shoulder and my husband accidentally caught a a scab on its tail when we were grooming it to get he bugs out and the scab pulled a chunk out so we put peroxide on that wound as well in hopes to keep the baby from gaining infection. I will clean the wounds again tomorrow after the poor baby gets some rest. Is there any suggestions on how to make sure this baby isn't diseased, sick, seriously injured? I just want to make sure it is ok but also make sure that i cannot pass anything to myself, husband, children and animals.

There is nothing you can "catch" from a baby squirrel except possibly get a flea on you, if he has them. Sqirrel fleas are not like cat and dog fleas and they will not stay on a human so seriously, you are in no danger from this baby. I will alert our member Duckman and his crew out in WA to your post and he may be able to help -- he is a wonderful squirrel rehabilitator.

Where in Washington are you located? Our Refuge is located in Vancouver, but we do have volunteers and affiliations throughout Washington.

Thank you so much!! This baby is seriously a super sweet baby. I already love it. I mean it doesn't take much for me to love animals as it is but this baby is just so loving. I am sure it is between 3 and 5 months old. I am also pretty sure it is a male. I work at a vet but I am not a technician or assistant. I am the animal care provider who just monitors the animals and makes sure they are taken care of. I.e. water, food, potty, and if their behavior or anything turns negative from their previous state. I really hope to get him back to healthy and release him into our backyard with our other yard squirrels that we feed every day year round.

I'm trying to upload the pictures of it from my phone. I even sent them to my email and then put them on my pc to put on her but the insert image wants a URL. So I have no idea how to get them on here.

I would appreciate that. However I do want to make sure he can stay here at my house in the trees with all our other squirrels. They are always bringing new squirrels around. In fact we have a momma named tank who has brought her babies here as well the last 2 years. I would not want to lose this precious boy. He has a special place in my heart.

We found him at Yeager Park in Olympia while we were playing a softball game. We took our two kids to the park to play after and that's when we found him. We dont live near Yeager park. We live in a nice neighborhood on a cul de sac. So he will have a nice safe place to be with plenty of new squirrel friends when he is released.

Hi is there any way you can bring your baby to Redmond tomorrow? I can take a look at him. If the bite marks are from a cat he will need antibiotics ASAP. I can help with that. I can also see if he is paralyzed.

I am not familiar with Redmond. I am much more comfortable with lacey. Are you able to come here and check him out?

I'm not familiar with a tea tree wash for ferrets but tea tree oil should not be used on a squirrel.
Wiping down with a damp cloth with Dawn unscented liquid dish soap will rid fleas.
Peroxide should not be used, it can kill healthy tissue, a diluted Betadine solution is best to use.
Please post a picture of this baby, injures, and genital area so we can have an idea of age, condition, etc.
Below is a link on baby squirrel care...
It's 6 pages long with the next button on the top right corner.

Atm I have some fruit and unsalted peanuts that I shelled so he doesnt have to do it. I am also syringe feeding him water as well as have water in a bowl. I am also going to buy a bottle, pedialyte and some puppy milk to try and help him grow a bit just incase he is a little younger than I suspect.

Don't buy a bottle. Get a syringe (1cc or 3cc) from a pharmacy. Tell them it's for an orphan animal and they will give you one.
A bottle will cause milk to go into the lungs and than they get aspiration pneumonia.

schambers7, the very best thing you could possibly do for this baby is get him to SQUIRRELSAREME as soon as possible. He does look roughed up; dehydrated and those cat lacerations are full of bacteria. They can literally kill him. SQUIRRELSAREME has meds, vet contacts, and loads of squirrel experience. If you truly want to save him, do it.

I have this little girl now. She has two large abscess under each ear, and can’t walk, maybe a broken pelvis. Her front paws have a hard time gripping I am hopeful this is due to the infection. I have a vet appointment tomorrow afternoon for her. Rocki will need lots of prayers

Update on Rocki .I got her to the vet and had three abscesses drained.X-ray showed no broken bones. All of her joints are inflamed with possible infection. The vet said I should probably euthanize her, I said were only dealing with infections. So I want to chance to try and help her. So she is home with me. I have her on Clindamycin , clavamox and metacam 305444305445305446 Rocki’s spine is a little bit curved near the shoulders. And her teeth are a little bit splayed on the bottom. I will be trimming them
