Hi,
I am not sure whether this is life threatening or not, but did not want to take a chance.
I have a nursing mother who disappeared for 2 weeks (she is usually a daily visitor) and came back 5 days ago. I noticed her toe (on hind foot) looked broken (was staying up), but she could run and looked like she learned to compensate. Today, however, her toe is black!! I am very concerned that this is gangrene. I cannot trap her, because she is a nursing mom (I estimate her babies to be 8 weeks old). I have access to Clamavox and Cipro.

Here is what her toe looks like

Please tell me what is the best course of action here. I have WMB for dosing, so I am going to go look in my book now to get ready, but wanted experienced rehabbers to give me help and advise. I am very concerned.

Thanks in advance

Forgot to mention... I can only give one dose per day, as I cannot count on seeing her twice a day. So based on the dosage I should be giving BID, how should I increase it if it is just once? 150%? What would be appropriate?

Is Clamavox safe to give to a nursing mom?

The toe obviously has turned necrotic, my concern would be an infection going septic.
Obviously the toe needs to come off and just as obvious being a nursing mom makes that
a difficult situation.
Clavamox is safe to give a nursing mom, it may help warding off a secondary infection but
it's not going to help that toe. What is the estimated weight your going on for wanting to
dose her with Clavamox?

Thanks Step-n-stone. Infection that would go septic is my fear precisely. I guesstimate her weight around 600 gr. It's two mamas in a bad situation I cannot trap that I am dealing with right now... very sad.

I prepared the Clamavox because I ended up finding out it was indeed safe for a nursing mom. I will give her the 1st dose in the morning.

Actually I think she weighs closer to 700 gr, but I am really unsure of myself here, as I have not gotten the chance to weigh adults very often (only at the vet's really and not often). Here is a full body picture of Lily a couple of months ago, which is pretty close to what she looks like today (weight wise). What do you estimate her weight to be? I still don't how to increase her dosage if I give a single daily dose.

I would guess closer to 800. She is a gal that loves her belly. The snack bar must be pretty good in Canada. She is one beautifully beautiful girl.

Thank you Redwuff.
haha, yes she does have access to a couple of snack bars. She is really friendly, so she has at least 2 other human friends (that I know about). It worries me how friendly she is. There are some cruel humans out there.

So my plan is to dose at 150% of the BID dosage, given only once daily. Please, if that is a bad plan, let me know.

I'm assuming you plan on doubling the dose instead of giving 2x a day but I'm not quite wrapping my head around the 150%?
Do you have the mg of the clavamox as stated in WMB or will you have to break what you do have down?

That was the essence of my question. I was not sure if doubling the dose would be too much to give at once. Being unsure, I was going to give x1.5 (this is what I meant by 150%). That is what I prepared, but she she hasn't shown yet. I will give a double dose instead. Thanks, I really was hoping for input here.

Yes, I do have the same strength (62.5mg/ml) as in WMB, and I am good with doing the math. I made an excel file a while a go to make it super easy. I just enter the mg/kg I want, the animal's weight and the strength I am using.
