Hey all, first time rehabber here, our little guy is about 4-5 weeks old. We've had him for a couple weeks now and he's been doing great but he has contracted Pneumonia and I'm seriously concerned, shallow breathing, clicking, lethargic. He has been eating a little bit but only after significant coaxing.

I stopped formula immediately and have switched to Pedialyte only. All of the vets in the area are closed, the best I could get him was some Doxycycline to get him through the weekend.

Can anyone give me dosing information for this? I'm unsure if his exact weight but I would say maaaaaybe 4 ounces?

Meds are dosed based on weights. Doxy can be used until you can get something better but it's not the first drug of choice for pneumonia, which is generally caused by aspirating milk, not caught from somewhere.

These guys are very small, weight is essential. You can get a kitchen scale at walmart, target, etc, for less than $20. In the mean time you can put him against a ruler and we can try to guess his weight. We weigh in grams.

If the doxy is expired, it's dangerous and could be lethal. Please note the expiration date on it.

If you could get one tablet of ciprofloxicin or baytril (enrofloxocin) or augmenten/clavamox (amoxicillin-clavulanic acid) it would be better for him to start on that.

What are you feeding him, how much and how often. You feed based on weight so you know he's getting the correct calories and not more than his stomach capacity. Over and under feeding can cause more problems. Improper formula as well. Let us help you get sorted out so baby can get back to health.
