I’ve just rescued a young squirrel from the jaws of a cat. It’s been about an hour since I got it. It’s tongue is sticking out (I think) because of neck swelling due to the cat carrying it by the neck. It is breathing well now. Was very labored at first. Has blood around it’s neck area but looks more like some denuding of the skin. No frank puncture wound visible. Eyes open, able to move. Have contacted local rehaber but nothing happening yet. What can I do now to assist this squirrel and give it the best chance for survival?

It will need antibiotics.. do you have any? Clavamox (Augmentin) or Baytril (Cipro) would be best.

Can you post a picture so we can see the neck injury?

If you haven't yet offer hydration via syringe (pedialyte, water, sugar water).
