Need advice, I am committed to these steps. Have the heating blanket, have the syringe, formula, heavy whipping cream, etc. my dog was guarding this baby on our porch this morning and I have been trying to get the baby to eat since 8am(now 3$ getting very little. I tried formula and then resorted to water with a little sugar. I don’t know if he is just to weak to eat but I can get him to swollen a few drops each time. How do I encourage feeding? He has peed once and pooped once in that time frame. Please help.

Hi Salexander, welcome to TSB. Can you post a pic or let us know how old the baby is -- eyes open or closed? Furred or pink? Tail bushy or thin? OK, with your hot TX weather we need to assume this baby is dehydrated. Dehydration causes lack of appetite. You did right to switch to sugar water for the first few 'feedings' -- you can add a pinch of salt to 2 cups very warm water and 1.5 TABLEspoons sugar to make a homemade hydration that is like Pedialyte without the chemicals. Try him every hour with the hydration formula until you see his intake increase. Then go with the formula -- hopefully you have Esbilac Powdered puppy milk replacer? This is a must; canned will give him diarrhea.

Continue to potty him as his mom would do -- after he's on formula his poop will be gold to olive green in color -- don't panic that's normal.

If you'd like us to find a rehabilitator for you, please let us know what part of TX you're in. Baby squirrels do SO much better when they are raised with other babies. :great

Baby squirrels like very warm formula. That might help.
Some are difficult to get them to latch onto a nipple. You have to keep trying. Once they get it down, there's is no slowing them down.
