Hello all,
My 4 year old gray Nut loves to gnaw on our plaster walls and ceiling. Of course we stop him, husband less than thrilled with this behavior! Can consuming this be bad for him?
Sylvia and the last batch of squirrels did the same thing. Sylvia also wants to get into my natural clay for sculpting. Obviously don't let them eat it. I found using clear packing tape over rough or open places in the plaster keeps the from going at that spot. But that's a temporary solution.

Sad to say most of my guys think walls are edible yummies. I have a can of spackle just for the squirrel room. I have found tacking fleece over the walls helps—until one of the little dears finds a place to crawl behind the fleece. Then let the gnawing begin. I wonder if Yuk comes in a gallon can. If you find a solution, PLEASE share.

My guys do the same thing. No idea what it is, but they love to get on the shelves in what used to be a closet and chew the corners of the walls there. we don't let them either; the danger I always fear is the chemicals either in the paint or the plaster itself. :dono
Plaster and plastic seem to be addictive - walls, little plaster statues, my camera, my keyboard.. anything plastic. Could it be if it starts with plas.... then it's fun to chew? :grin3

I believe that plaster contains some form of calcium. Try offering a calcium chew, antlers or a bone. I buy marrow femur bones for my dog. He eats the marrow out and chews on it for awhile. When it’s dried out I found my squirrel loved to chew on the edges. It’s a good source of calcium and helps wear her teeth down. :grin2
