I had never heard of the drug you mentioned so I looked it.
I assume you're talking about Mirtazapine (an appetite stimulant for cats).
I have never heard of a squirrel taking this so I'm not sure about it. :dono
My opinion is that I wouldn't use it in a senior squirrel. Any side effects would be amplified in a senior and we really don't know if the kidneys are functioning properly.

You are so blessed to have a 15 year old squirrel. :Love_Icon
I would really try to get high calorie food into your baby. You could try syringe feeding warm Ensure. You can also give Nutracal. It is a high calorie product for cats. It can be diluted with water and syringe fed.

You also might want to give Pedialyte for hydration. A dehydrated animal will not eat so boosting hydration would be a good idea.

Normally I would say to cut back on the nut butter but to be honest with you, we have to ask ourselves questions like, will depriving him of something he really loves add 5 minutes to his life? Probably not. I remember making a decision like that with my near 90 year old uncontrollable diabetic grandmother. She wanted cake so are got cake. Sometimes that IS the right answer.

Does your baby like avocado or fruit? Sometimes these are favorites. Watermelon is good for hydration.
Good luck to you with your baby.

I see that you're one of the original TSB members. :tilt

Loosing weight and lethargy is also a sign of kidney disease.

I would consider giving your squirrel Pycnogenol from "Organika" available on Amazon.com as it supports kidney health.

and was found to increase the energy and appetite in an older squirrel on the board.

It also helps to counter metabolic syndrome, and supports bone mineralization.

(0.05) ml. This is the measure that is smallest measure near the tip of the syringe.

I’m sorry your baby is not well. What a blessing to have one for 15 years. At this point she could have a hundred things wrong. I would feed her whatever she wants to eat. When my baby was ill with cancer I gave him bottled water that has electrolytes and minerals like Gatorade does except it doesn’t have a flavor. It’s plain water. I think Evian and Essentials are some of the brands. If she eats nut butters you can add calcium and mix it in. I sprinkled crushed calcium tablets to his watermelon and avocado. Hope all goes well. Prayers going up for you. ✝️🐿

Sometimes in the latter years tooth issues pop up; baked squash is easy for squirrels to chew, and is a good source of nutrients and fiber.

Vanilla organic yogurt from Green Valley, or "Stonyfield is a good choice in support of calcium and other nutrients including protein.

If your squirrel will eat this yogurt you can add the calcium you give directly to it.

Be careful in using sources that have allot of salt, and sugar, like Pedialyte electrolyte source; as they should not be used more for than a day or two.

Smart Water isn't a bad source of water, not too acidic or too alkaline.
