Our best Manhattan rehabber has a dilemma: Sebastian, a spring baby she raised and wants to release, is just way too sweet. He is attached to her, cuddly and friendly even though she raised him exactly the way she raised her other maniacs who are ready to go! :dono Here's the question:

Can anyone take Sebastian for a few weeks to see if he wilds up in a new environment? I wish I could, but I am having anxiety attacks just having to smuggle my Owena back home without the evil condo board seeing me....

So, I will provide transport and a cage if someone out there can take this sweet boy for a bit.... please? Thanks. :grouphug

Why not just keep him? He is non-releasable by virtue of not wanting to go. As I have said before my Kami is that way and I would not dream of trying to "wild her up". She is perfectly happy snuggling and staying warm and safe with her dad. Let's keep condo associations and jack booted state agents out of our bedrooms - please! Once critter nation with a content squee in a closed private room is our business.

This rehabber gets swamped every season because she is the only active rehabber in NYC/Manhattan who actually does anything. (Many flaunt their licenses but take nothing. Or take two and say they're full.) She has NR's, and she has limited space in an apartment (as I do). When you live in a co-op or condo, a closed private room is not just "our business". It's also the Board's business, the HOA's business, the Dept of Health's business.....yada yada I think we have a potential foster mom anyhow, who is in a stand-alone house in the country. It's all good. If this boy truly doesn't want to be wild, we will find a home for him.

A foster mom in the country is the best thing for a squirrel vs release in Manhattan. Sometimes I think it's a disconnect between rural and city ideology. I am sure gunpackinggrandma (from Montana) would agree we would never allow a condo board or the government to control us or what we have or do in our private homes. Ryan Boylan in Clearwater Beach went through that with his squirrel and condo assoc, but then his condo assoc is made up of rich transplants from NY & NJ who brought that controlling behavior with them. I am sure you would agree after what they have put you through with poor Owena.

Off the :soapbox

Just glad he is heading to a good home.

All set! Sebastian has a new temp foster mom who lives on wooded acres in upstate NY. Foster mom is also taking a few possies off the NYC rehabber's hands, because she has a few dozen :eek Whew, that was a nice easy one for a change! :serene

I think he is headed my way this weekend :). I've still got the 3 storm babies who are nice and wild and will make good release mates if Sebastian decides to head out to the great outdoors :D.

Miss NYC rehabber always manages to sneak in a few Opies, the 3 I took from her a few months ago are getting the boot this week, so the cage is free and available for more Opies.

:grouphugKim :grouphug You never fail to step up for a squirrel or possie (or whatever!) in trouble. And that NYC rehabber does SO much more than anyone else in the five boroughs....it's my pleasure to release her squirrels for her, and I'll bet you feel the same about lightening her load. :thankyou:thankyou:hug

Yes Indeed, it's why I always say yes to some babies from her. I didn't release the 3 Opie boys last night due to all the horrible rain, so I'm going to do it tonight. Sebastian and more Opie's are coming tomorrow evening. Good job to you too!!
