Wakko and Dot soft release

Wakko and Dot are 17 weeks and ready to start their soft release. Their cage should be done Sunday. I do have a question or concern though. It's been very hot in Indiana. In the 90s most days. And they have been in an air conditioned house. Though I try to make their room as warm as possible for them without it being hot. I'm concerned about putting them outside. Should I just wait for a break in the heat? Or am I just over worrying? Thank you everyone!

Is their release cage going to be under a tree somewhere? Do you have any kind of a breeze where you live? When would you expect a break in the heatwave? In Florida August and September can be our hottest months and I know plenty of folks that release all year here.

I have seen that folks have used fans to provide some air movement to their squirrels in release cages....even blowing air over ice or devising some type of mister system. I’m not sure if any of this would work with your release cage set up, though.

Is there any way you can wheel their cage outside for several hours a day prior to placing them in their release cage? I used to do this with my guys so they could start adapting to the warmer air outside from the cooler air conditioned air inside. I would put them on my screened patio for a couple of weeks. Initially I would bring them back in at night then I would leave them out at night then I’d put them in the release cage. :grin2
