We are finding these on the ground. Big green nuts; I was told they are Hickory Nuts, just still green Dontheynlike these? Or do they have to turn brown? Just store in cool, dark place?

Yes, they love them. They are very, very hard - I like giving them periodically to ensure that teeth stay ground down properly. I also BUY mine every fall on ebay, with all of the prep work done by someone else, who is my very favorite person to do stuff like this.

If you go on youtube there are LOTS of different methods for ripening (yes, the husks need to turn brown) and de-husking them.
