Hey SB buddies. I recently released a couple of sisters back in late May with a soft release (my first time releasing squirrels). Since then they appear to have built a nest together and have regularly returned for food multiple times a day. However, over the past few days one of them has not shown up at all, though her sister is still here frequently. Should I expect the worst or is it at all likely she's moved on to a new area despite the abundant food supply around here??
They have a roaming area. Maybe she just went out and is sleeping somewhere else for a bit. They do that, leave for a while, show up weeks, months later. But sometimes they leave for their own territory too.
I hope you see her again.:Love_Icon

I once released a squirrel, Abby Jo, to be exact. At first I could not get her to leave the enclosure, she would come back and hang out all day, then at dusk she was gone. After a while, she disappeared for over two weeks, I thought the worst. Then, one day, she came skipping back into the yard like nothing happened. Silly girl!

Yea. My Chloe came to see me everyday for 5 years. There were times I wouldn’t see her because of my work schedule and she would come at the same time everyday. Then also I wouldn’t see her when she had babies. I always knew when she had babies because she would stay gone for two weeks. She wouldn’t abandon her babies. I haven’t seen her now in 20 months, since the drought. It’s hard not seeing her. I miss her.
I hope your baby comes home soon. When I first released her she would stay in the trees and wouldn’t come home. Give her time. She’s probably exploring her territory. She’ll get hungry and homesick.

And now for the thrilling epilogue: I was sitting around outside just the other day and Clara just walked right up to say hello (and see if I had any treats). She makes casual visits every couple of days now and apparently seems to be much more of an independent lady than her sister! Thanks again for the consolation when I was worrying too much!
