i HAVE A 5 DAY OLD BABY THAT IS NOT POOPING. The ones who found him feed him goat milk and we switched to to Fox Valley a day later. What can we give him to start pooping? Its been a day since he pooped.

What FV are you feeding?

FV32/40 or FV20/50?

Is the baby's milk line moving? I am assuming you fed 32/40. How many feedings?

32/40 turns the gut to concrete. Many pinkies have been lost to this formula. The formula most people are using is the goats milk formula.

If the gut/milk line is not moving, then the first thing must be done is to clear the gut.
Every hour on the hour syringe PLAIN WARM WATER, NOTHING ADDED to the baby. Try for 5%. Do this until milk line totally disappears.

We have been alternating water and Pedolite every other hour today. We only fed him FV for one day. His milk line is not moving. What do you mean about syringing him?

Can I SubQ his stomach and suck the milk out?

Syringe meaning using a syringe as a means of getting formula/fluid orally to baby.

You are doing good but increase plain water to every hour. Nothing else but plain warm water. There is a sticky to this protocol that will be posted. Stimulate genitals after each fluid given. It helps to move the gut!

No!

Can I SubQ his stomach and suck the milk out?

The formula is already in intestines. That will not work.

That would be an IP stick and the problem is that the milk is now too thick because the fluids have all been sucked from it. You would need a very large gauge needle and the baby is way too small.

There is a sticky here with the process but I can't find it. BUT, I have followed it and it has worked.
Redwuff has advised your correctly.

WATER (plain water) every hour on the hour by mouth. Warm it like formula and feed HOURLY. Stimulate for potty every hour.

The first few will be a fight but then they will start taking it eagerly. They know they need it.

The object here is that you are reconstituting the formula in their stomach.

It takes hours, but it does work. I saved 3 babies following this. I will continue to look for the step by step protocol.

Go start now with the PLAIN WATER, please.

What is a sticky? Can I place a tube in his stomach and gently suck it out? I can tube feed but never reversed the process.

Here is the protocol.

The trick for me seemed to be getting in as much water, as quickly as possible, once you see and feel the hardness in the belly. Not sugar water or Pedilyte, but plain water. I did this every hour (giving about .2-.3 ml) and ensure you stimulate after each, for 2 reasons.
1. You have to get that water out of the bladder, and it will burst if you don't.
2. You want that water to start working on the crud in the belly.
After 8-10 hours, you should start seeing some movement out of the bowel (they will continue to poop, but you will start to see it more watery, which is what you want). At that time, start introducing diluted formula at the ratio of 25% Esbilac, 75% water. Feed this for the first half day. The second half day, I bumped up the ration to 50/50. I fed this for a day and then went to 75% Esbilac, 25% water and introduced full food the next day (and the blockage was gone!). So far, I am at 100% success rate. One note though. I check my pinkies after every feeding, so see if their bellies are hard or squishy. I would suggest everyone get in the habit of checking them after every feeding as habit and you can't go wrong in catching them before they bloat up. Once they take on that angry red color on their bellies (this is when their system goes septic), they are gone and can't be saved, so the trick is to catch them before this happens (hence, getting in the habit to see if their tummies are hard or not).

You can try this, but the problem is the formula is now very thick similar to coagulated blood...
You can't use a 5 french on a baby this small so you have to use a 3.5 tube...it's too small.

How about just syringing him the water like we've suggested?

If you suck to hard you could suck in the walls of his stomach and damage the baby. Syringe feeding water is the very best thing to do.

The fluid has already been absorbed from the formula. The protocol is coming. Please do not try reverse tubing.

this is Duckmans protocol. It has saved many babies.

Just to be very clear, when MM says diluted formula at 25% Esbilac and 75% water, that’s Esbilac formula already made up 2 parts water to 1part Esbilac powder. I’m assuming you know this but somebody with a similar problem reading the thread may not. By the way, Duckman’s protocol works!!!!! It saved my little guy Johmmy Cash!

I know it's scary, but you can't fix this problem with a IP sticks and gastric suction. It's not liquid until you add enough water to liquify it and at that point the body will digest it appropriately. Any other method will cause trauma.

I have also used Duckmans protocol successfully. Just stick with it, plan on being up all night, don't give up and be patient.

Thanks so much. We are doing the Duckmans Protocal and will let you know how it did in the morning. We are crossing our fingers.

Thankyou so much. Praying for your little one. We have also had problems with esbilac for pinkies this year. I would strongly suggest using the goat's milk formula for pinkies up to 3 wks. Then I slowly transitioned to 50%goats milk formula 50% FV20/50.

Goat milk formula 3 part goat milk, 1 part heavy duty whipping creme, 1 part vanilla full fat yogurt

I only wish I'd had Duckman's method back in 2013, when I lost 11 precious pinkies to bloat on 32/40. :sad
