Hi there! I have 3 small (approx 5-8 weeks old, solely based off google search and other experienced squirrel rehabbers) red squirrels that I would love to have someone rehabilitate or take. I am from Weirton, WV. I have had the babies since friday evening. I was in my back yard and they surprised me by climbing up my leg and nestled in my shirt. Originally it was just the 2 of them. I left them out all weekend and mother is no where to be found. We have searched trees and unable to locate a nest. I found another one (thinking the same litter) in almost the same spot on saturday afternoon. I have been attempting to keep them alive and warm but am unable to keep them and give them proper care. The original two are together and both will take pedialyte and one will eat apples. The last one is slightly aggressive and I have been unable to hold or feed it. I placed some seeds and apples in his box. Hope someone is able to help!!!

Have you tried putting the 3rd one with the others?
He would probably calm down if with the siblings.

It's late so we probably can't get help for you tonight. Hang with us and maybe someone can get help for you tomorrow.

This is a link with helpful information regarding caring for baby squirrels. It is 6 pages long. I realize you need a rehabber but until that happens it will help.

Go to this link and please read.
It's 6 pages long with the next button at the top right corner.

These little ones need help and for now you are the only one
that can do that.
Please get some pedialyte or homemade pedialyte into them.
Homemade Pedialyte
1 cup warm water
1/4 tsp salt (teaspoon)
1 Tbsp sugar (tablespoon)
Can you try to care for them until someone is found?
You will need Powdered Puppy Esbilac for feeding after
they are fully hydrated.

As HRT4SQRLS said it's late now so finding someone from the
board is difficult at best, not even sure what members we have
close to you.
What large city are you near?

I'm going to take them for her in the morning and care for them till we can find them a home. I've raised two reds and other squirrels successfully. Mainly thanks to the help of this board!

I agree about the 3rd being with the others. I'm going to take them in the morning and they'll all be together.

Thank you so much for responding. Im very thankful I was referred to this site. I have been giving them pedialyte diluted like I found on my research. They seem to drink it well through a syringe. Not very much though. I can get one to eat very small amounts of apples also. the other just drinks. For now I had the last one in a separate area. But, I will place all three together tonight. I have been unable to get the last one to eat anything-was unable to handle it and I placed seeds and apples in the box for it. I have been using warm water bottles in the boxes to help keep them warm because I read that is very important. Thank you very much for the information and for responding! I hope to hear back from you guys!! xoxox

Also, I found an experienced person to look after them to give them the care they need until we can find a more permanent solution for them. So, I am very happy about that and that I know they will be getting the care they deserve. But, will absolutely take any options on permanent placement. Thanks!!

So is this experienced person going to take them soon?

Never mind I just found the post.
Thank you TammyG!

I thought about something. Be careful with the introduction. Sometimes they are thrilled to be reunited. Other times they act like they don't even know each other and will start fussing. Just watch them for a bit to see how they interact.

Just to clarify, TammyG you are able to take these three babies?

They have been introduced and did ok. They just all curled up and slept. The third one looked a little rough so I picked him up with a glove and it had about 1 ml of pedialyte finally. Still doesn't like to be touched, very jumpy and lunges. The three are sleeping curled up together.
Tammy G is taking them temporarily. We still need to find somewhere more permanent. thank you!!

How far are you willing to travel.
This is a really busy time of year with most rehabbers
already filled up.
You may be their only hope, so with no guarantees of finding someone, would you
be able to do this?
You can also check on the internet for wild life rehabilitation in
your state. They typically break them down according to counties.
Good luck with that though as we've heard that most don't even return
phone calls. :shakehead.

Go to this link below to start.
Scroll down a little past the black line.
Click on your state and see what's listed for an area near you.

I'll travel an hour or so but I believe Rarcuragi is the one who will take them. Hopefully she can answer. Yes, I'll keep them if I have to. I would never take them on without knowing I may end up with them till release. My property is red squirrel territory so that's good. We also have nesting boxes in the trees. I have a late litter gray squirrel that is still here with us from last summer. Not sure she's going to be releasable for a couple of reasons. This is my biggest concern. She's queen bee, I'll be doing my best to keep her away from the reds.

I am willing to travel up to 3 hours but would only be able to do so for the next week. And then I will be out of town on business for 2 weeks. I will check with my mom, she may be willing/able to transport as well if needed.

I can change the title of your thread, to indicate the location.
What would you like your thread to read.
Remember it's only about the first 5 words that will appear
on the front page, so make them good.
We want to draw attention to the area you are and where you're willing to go.

Have you checked out the link I provided?

That would be great if you could change the title to something that will help. I do not know what a good title for this would be though? I live in the very top of WV where it borders Pa and OH. Do you have any ideas on title names? And I haven't gotten around to your link yet. I've been receiving an incredible amount of information and have been calling/emailing those first and exploring their resources that they've provided. I will have some help
This afternoon so will explore your link as well: thank you!!

Would something like "Northern WV, PA, OH help needed for 3 little red squirrels" and I can put an exclamation point.
I'll change it now, and we can always change it if we come up with something better. :thumbsup

They're here and cute as can be. Active but very thin. I've forgotten how small reds are!

Aren't they the cutest little things ever?
I love raising reds.
They're SO fast and wiggly.
They remind me of little cartoon characters. :klunk
