Nosey is either one of Risu's older sons or grandsons. He's a cute shy little guy. I noticed him for the first time about a month ago.
His little nose was extremely swollen and he had trouble breathing. After that I didn't see him for several days. The next time I saw him, the swelling was gone, but there was and still is a lot of sneezing. I think it was an abscess that drained itself. After it drained it looked like a cut on the right side of his nose.
He started to somewhat trust me over the past couple of weeks and he is eating a couple of wild bites every day.
I've been trying to get a good video or picture of him and finally got one today. It looked to me like his nose was bleeding.
Here is the video from today. What do you guys think I can do for him besides feeding him?

I’m not sure what else you could do, but it’s odd how he holds his head tipped up to eat sometimes. Does anyone else think it looks odd? Maybe he’s having a difficult time breathing?

He’s cute as can be, though. :Love_Icon

That's what I'm worried about too and I forgot to mention that it sometimes looks like he has the hiccups.

Well, he sure looks healthy and his appetite is awesome. :grin2 What a doll!

I remember a couple cases where the head tipping back to eat was due to overgrown teeth. Try to observe the teeth when he eats to rule that out.

To me, his teeth or tooth looks prominent when he's eating and he's tipping his head back while chewing. I say teeth.

I got a decent look at his teeth today and they didn't look overgrown to me, but I'll keep watching him as closely.
He's a little smaller than the other boys in my yard.

I'm praying it's not his teeth, but I could be wrong and they are overgrown? I just don't know. I'll continue to keep a close eye on him.

If they are overgrown, do you think you could trap him?

I would definitely try, but I'm not sure where he is staying and there is lot's of squirrel traffic in my yard right now. I think it will be quite difficult.

I too immediatley thought a tooth issue when I saw him tipping his head back to eat.
I stopped the video, ~42-45 mark and wondered if I am only seeing one tooth.
Did you actually see 2 bottom teeth?

I got some screen shots to show the teeth better.
I think I'm only seeing one tooth, unless the other one is broken off.

It does sort of look as if he has only one bottom tooth, although it is difficult to be sure. Head tipping back while eating is a very common sign of malocclusion, though....:(

Goodness, I just don't know. I thought I saw all teeth, but it looks like there's only one bottom tooth in the screenshot. I hope to see him today and get another look.
What about his bloody nose?
What am I gonna do?

Honestly short of trapping and observing him, I don't know what could be done.
BUT now that I think about this, I wonder if he took a fall, (thus explaining the bloody nose) and broke the tooth off.
I also wonder if that "posturing" could also be because he can't breath too well through his nose. :dono

:sniff poor Nosey, I'll try to get another look today. Is there anything I can give him to make him more comfortable? I can definitely try to trap, but I think it will be difficult with all the squirrel activity. Maybe l can figure out where he is staying. He used to stay in the nest box that Risu took over.

At this point, unless you have a vet that will see him immediately, this may just be a passing
thing where it will clear up by itself.
Just try to get a good look at the teeth for now.
I would hate to give him anything for comfort, since
pain relievers will most likely make him sluggish.

That makes perfect sense, Nancy.....a fall and injury to the tooth and nose.

I hope that it is something that he can overcome on his own. Gemma's vet is only uncertain days of the week and I don't believe that he ever treated a wild squirrel. I'm sure that he would try, but handling a wild would be new territory for everyone.

Nosey ate his 2 wild bites again, but I couldn't get look at his face today. The squirrels been wild in my yard today and he was definitely struggling with his breathing, because he was being chased before he came close enough to me. Poor little guy :sadness

Nosey update:
He has 2 perfect bottom teeth :bliss I was maybe 5 inches from his face (I'm shocked he didn't run from me or jumped me for getting that close), but he's still sneezing.

That's great news!:w00t I hope the little guy will be able to recover from whatever he's struggling with. I know it's worrisome.:grouphug

My little buddy Nosey:Love_Icon is still a most days visitor.
Poor little guy is still sneezing a lot and it looks like he has the hiccups. I was able to get a short video of him eating his block and I feel like he's not lifting his head while eating like he did a couple of weeks ago. There are 3 sets of new babies in the yard (Risu's babies, Sabrina's grandbabies and I believe Risu grandbabies, each mama had 2 babies) and there is a lot of chasing going on.....Nosey is a shy little boy and he's not been coming as close to me, with 3 crazy mamas chasing everyone around.
Here are the videos from 2 weeks ago and from today. What do you guys think?

He has definitely improved from what I can tell, but he still sneezes a lot. He seems to have a healthy weight for his size. I'm pretty sure that he is one of Risu's sons, he used to nest with Leggie and Normie (I'm pretty sure that they are all brothers).
Leggie has a disadvantage too. He must have broken his left front paw as a little guy, and didn't heal right. The paw just hangs there, but it doesn't slow him down. He is a little braver than Nosey and comes within inches of my hand. I'm not sure if they are still nesting together anymore. Normie doesn't come to visit as much anymore, he is the shyest out of the 3.

He definitely looks better now, since he's not lifting his head back to eat.
I do wonder if those "hiccups" you noticed are of him doing little growls
warning something to stay away. Do you think he saw something. He
seems to have departed rather quickly before finishing his nut. :dono

I wished the hiccups were little growls, but I feel that it is connected to the sneezing. He took off in the video, because Risu was coming. She is the boss in the yard.
Nosey turned down the block I offered him and wanted a hazelnut instead so I didn't get to watch him eat today, but he was sneezing less. He is a really cute little guy :Love_Icon

I'm heartbroken to share the news that little :Love_IconNosey:Love_Icon couldn't hold on any longer. I never was able to figure out what was going on with him. His visits became less and less frequent.
RIP sweet little boy. I'll miss you terribly :boohoo:sad

It breaks my heart to read this.:sadness I was really hoping little Nosey would be able to recover from whatever was wrong. I’m thankful that you were there to provide extra nutrition and fresh water when he came. I’m sure that made it easier for him in his compromised state.
Godspeed sweet little Nosey.:Love_Icon:sad
