What are you feeding them and how much? And just to clairify, are they three weeks old, or have you had them three weeks?

Are you feeding the puppy POWDERED Esbilac?
https://photos.smugmug.com/photos/i-CDTTKJg/0/1dcc5ec1/S/i-CDTTKJg-S.jpg
How long have you been giving Pedialyte? It should never
be given for more than 24 - 48 hours tops!
Green stools are often a sign of parasites. Is there a foul smell?
It could be giardia or coccidia.
How much do they weigh, how much are you feeding, and how often?
Are these your first squirrels?
Could he have aspirated? You say he won't drink anything, this is concerning.
Do you have access to any antibiotics, Clavamox, or Augmentin, Baytril (Animal) or Cipro (Human)

I've gave them Pedialyte for a few hours at a time Im not using the powder but just a puppy milk in a can. There has been no foul smell. It was just green a couple days then back to Golden color.

I feed them every 3 hours. I don't know if my scale is correct they are both about 48 g

They need the powdered Esbilac. The liquid is not the same and causes a problem with their intestines which results in diarrhea. If they have loose stools then offer water with a drop of honey BETWEEN feedings. Go very slow.
What antibiotic did you find for your boy?
ILoveMyThing1&2
04-07-2018, 12:05 AM
Amoxicillin with honey
SammysMom
04-07-2018, 12:31 AM
Amoxicillin is not good for loose stool issues. Ask around to see if anyone has flagyl or metronidazole

Did you dose this?
If so how much did you give?

If you switch to the powdered Esbilac puppy formula the diarrhea might resolve itself.
The canned puppy Esbilac is notorious for causing diarrhea. The canned is not the same as the powdered formula.
Mel1959
04-07-2018, 08:03 AM
I believe the amoxicillin is for ap in the boy. The loose stools are probably from the liquid Esbilac. Continue with the amoxicillin for his pneumonia. Yes, please tell us what dosage of the amoxicillin you are giving.

Im not sure the dosage I didn't give it to him I got ahold of a lady from a wild ;Ife rescue place she gave it to me I watched her give it to him she gave told me to just put it all in the girls milk. Can I get those other antibiotics at a pet feed store? What do I do for the parasites. My went to go get me some of the powder and heavy whipping cream.
Mel1959
04-07-2018, 05:03 PM
At this point I wouldn’t be overly concerned about the diarrhea. You said it didn’t have a foul smell, correct? It probably is a result of feeding the wrong formula. You need to get the correct formula and switch them to it. The correct formula is the POWDERED ESBILAC with pre and probiotics on the label (or the third ingredient is whey protein). Because of the diarrhea you should offer some water with a touch of honey BETWEEN the regular feedings.

No, clindamycin is not a good choice for pneumonia.
I have bactrim 800/160mg
Is the bactrim your have (800mg/160mg) a tablet, capsule or liquid form?
If you can provide a weight of the squirrel someone will help dose the Bactrim. Even if you start bactrim I would recommend you continue to try to look for other antibiotics that are quicker acting and better for pneumonia: Cipro, Baytril, Clavamox, Amoxil. You'd need only one pill (Cipro and Augmentin are pretty popular, maybe someone you knows has a single pill left over?)
Weird that you got a single dose from the rehabber... not sure what they expected a single dose to accomplish.

you know in small increments?
Do you remember how full the syringe was?

I’m confused reading your posts. You posted earlier that the rehab woman was keeping your little boy till he got better. (Post #6) Does she still have him or did she give him back to you? One dose of amoxicillin is not going to cure pneumonia. If you have the little boy, then it’s important that you find some of the recommended drugs to treat him.
Is your little girl still doing ok? No clicking and eating well?
Did you get the correct Esbilac formula? The powdered one.

If these are 3 week old squirrels, 1.5ml to dose medications is a huge volume to be used in administering a single dose of medication.
Are you able to contact them to double check the instructions?
And we will need to know how much your squirrel weighs in order to dose any medications. If you don't have a scale maybe you could post a picture with her next to something to provide "scale", a common object like a soda can or writing pen.
Edit: Ok, I am just now seeing where you posted last night they weigh about 48grams, and so 1.5ml is indeed a large volume for a dose of medication. But we still need to know what the bactrim you have is (pills or liquid) and to be safe before giving more meds, if you could contact the rehabber that gave you to the amoxil just to double check what was provided: We do not want to overdose this little one on too much antibiotics... Also, do you have a 1ml syringe (that would be most useful / critical for medication dosing)?

I can't see that photo very well.
When you're in the box where you type look at the toolbar. You'll see a square with a tree in it next to a film strip. Click on the tree box. It will give you the option of two tabs. One says upload from computer, the other from a URL. Choose from computer. Then it wants you to browse photos. Find the one you want on your computer, click on it and click ok. Then click "upload photo" and it will look something like, [attach] blah blah [attach] and hit preview post. You should see your photo in the preview. Choose Submit Reply and it will be posted to your thread.

Where did you get more amoxicillin? How much of it were you told to give?
She should only get pedialyte for 48 hours at the most. Switch to water in between her formula feedings. Is she eating the powdered puppy esbilac listed above?
She needs a probiotic especially if she got an overdose of amoxi the first time and if she's on it again. Send photos to me of her poo.
Sent to my email tonight. I asked poster to please come back to her thread so we can help her (via email).

Can you get this baby to the rehabber that took the boy? This baby is critical. She will die without hydration and formula...and a 7 day course of antibiotics for aspiration pneumonia.
She has to have POWDERED Esbilac formula. Can you locate any? Tractor Supply Stores, Pet Supermarket and some feed stores that sell horse and animal supplies carry it. I’m not sure about Petco.
Are you still giving an antibiotic for aspiration pneumonia? The pneumonia, as well as being dehydrated, makes them unwilling to eat.

Do you mean she’s sneezing a lot? Is the clicking gone? Does she snort as she’s eating? Be careful she doesn’t inhale the milk. You need to hold back on the plunger so she doesn’t suck the formula down too quickly.
It will be a lot easier to feed her if you have a nipple for the syringe. If you want to pm (or call me) with your address I will send you some nipples and syringes. :grin2

Mel1959

There’s no hard and fast guide. The weight for squirrels is really different based on where you live. Gray squirrels in the south are much smaller than gray squirrels in the north.
Just be sure you adjust the amount you feed at each feeding based on what her weight is in the morning when you weigh her. The package should arrive today and you can add in the UltraBoost per the instructions I included. It will help her gain weight.

She looks to be in extremely critical condition. It does look to be severe bleeding in her gut.
It would be helpful to get pictures in better lighting so we can see more details and color of the stools. And a picture of the entire baby, her whole body.
I have to wonder if she is having liver issues, she looks yellow. Are her eyes opened? If so is the area around the eye yellow and not white?
What color is her urine?
Is she still getting Cipro? That can cause severe diarrhea... have you been giving any sort of probiotics before or after the antibiotic / Cipro doses?
This baby is critical. Would you be willing to hand her off to an experienced rehabber or can you take her to a vet we recommend??

Can you give us an update? How’s your little girl doing? Is she still bleeding? Did she take the yogurt?

I am posting some pictures for the finder for more eyes to see. The first picture is of the baby’s genitalia after a warm soak to remove dried blood. She had been applying triple antibiotic salve. I recommended using a cotton ball or make up brush so the scab isn’t disturbed and can heal. I made her aware to look for scabbing that would prevent the baby from urinating. The yellow appears to be a new scab maybe? How should she treat?
The second and third picture are to get input on whether the baby is bloated plus to show what she thinks is a swelling or lump on the right side of the body. We need some opinions, please?
At the moment, she is being given water in place of a feeding because of suspected bloat. She has done the warm water soak with massage and given one drop of simethicone. The baby has had bloody loose stools. She is no longer giving the antibiotic after 5 days of Cipro and a large initial dosing of amoxicillin. Yogurt was also given to help coat the intestines.
We are looking for some opinions and advice on how to move forward, please.
Mel, thank you for all you are doing.
Is the vulva scabbed or is this crusted stool? If crusted stool, that's an easy fix. I recommend warm water cotton ball to cleanse and stimulate genitalia to avoid abrasion as well.
As for the mass in the abdomen, it could be a hematoma, intestinal malfunction, gas, stool, an organ, etc, etc. It's so hard to tell.
I'm not sure how long this baby should be without food if she has diarrhea. I think I would try to feed her again, a small amount --1 ml, and pay attention to milk line and changes in appearance of abdomen after a meal and if baby can digest. Can finder take a belly photo prior to meal, immediately after meal, and at one hour marks for three hours. It would help those of us who are having a hard time with this one assess the situation.

I am helping finder with bloat issues and feeding issues. This is a picture of last nights poo. No more blood. :w00t The baby has also peed. She has been told to work back up to full strength formula gradually with smaller feedings closer together.
Thanks to NINY :Love_Icon I have passed on the name of a rehabber close by for her to contact.
The second picture is baby after feeding last night before pooping.
Are we sure no more blood? That looks like bloody mucus to me. It's a blurry photo, though. I'm happy baby is working up to full formula feedings, very slowly, and that things are moving.
Mel, thanks so much for your help with this little one. Since we don't hear much from OP on her thread it's been a real life saver that you have taken the time to go above and beyond off of the board and in your personal time. You're amazing and appreciated!:hug

No problem. I’m glad I can help. I’m sure the finder is exhausted trying to work through all the issues this little girl has had.
Here’s a current picture of this mornings stool.
It's not straight blood but looks like blood tinged mucous. Not sure where else the reddish brown color would be coming from. Improvement for sure. I'm looking forward to seeing some beautiful yellow solid poops from this baby.

I think the reason it looked so mucousy is from the triple antibiotic ointment I've been keekeeping on it

Thanks for the update. Her bowel movements will be yellow. That’s the formula color. Mommy color is black. Keep up with the feedings like I suggested.
Sorry I’m late telling you this, but sometimes it’s best to write everything down in a journal like the date, baby’s weight, changes to diet, changes in pee and poop pattern, etc. that way you can go back and see what change was made that had a positive, or negative, impact.
Let us know how the rest of the day goes. And if you call the rehabber.

Update- she is doing much better than she was last night I've been mixing the formula/water 80 /20. She is peeing she is crawling around feeding every 2 hrs the first time she could only take 0 .5, the second she took 0.6, third 0.7 so Im letting her move at her own pace.
