Hi all,

I noticed my little girl has a wound on the right side of her mouth. I had noticed that area looked a little "off" over the past week but nothing substantial. She doesn't like to be handled so I wasn't able to examine it as well as I would like.

Today I gave her a treat (to keep her mouth busy) and held her close to look at it- it's red but not bleeding, looks like its healing over... I'm assuming and hoping she may have just hurt herself chewing something, or perhaps her brother caught her there.

She had been overwhelmingly aggressive for 2-3 weeks (ended last week) and kicked her brother out of their nest. She'd attack at him anytime he came near, so they did occassionally scuffle. Of course I also worry it could be something that needs attention, so I thought I'd post here for advice/reassurance.

She's 4, turns 5 this year. Has never had any teeth issues.

Thank you in advance!

I don't have much experience with wounds but I can bump your thread!

Does she still have a normal appetite and activity level? It could just be a scrape that is healing, but it could also be an abcess that is just forming. I would watch it for increased redness and changes to her eating and activity level. An abcess can form under the skin and fill with pus. They usually rupture on their own, but sometimes need to be lanced and drained.

Do you have access to a vet? Do you have any antibiotics like Clavamox/Augmentin or Baytril/Ciproflaxin? It might be good to locate some in case you need them.

Thank you both! That's what my main concern was... the possibility of it being an abscess...

Her appetite has been great, no changes. Even still enjoying some fox valley formula which she spooned up yesterday. Activity has been normal as well.

I'll continue to keep an eye on it, yesterday the area looked much better, wouldn't even notice it's there if not for the scabbing. It had looked somewhat inflamed when I first noticed it which is what drew my attention to begin with. But definitely improved.

I do not currently have a vet... I know we have to be very selective if in a state it isn't legal to have them, which is most. I do have Dr. Pilny's contact information. He saw her previously when I lived in NYC, but I'm now living in Northern Delaware. Would you happen to know of a "Safe" vet in this area? I've tried searching the forums but haven't had much luck. Currently do not have any antibiotics in my possession but can see how I may be able to get ahold of some to have. Make a first aid kit for my babies :Love_Icon

Thank you again for your response!!

Contact member SophieSquirrel by private message. He has a lot of vet resources throughout the country and might be able to advise you of one close to you. It’s always nice to have that knowledge BEFORE a crisis. :grin2
