As per Dr Emerson I need dosing help for my Achondroplastic Dwarf Buddi. I need to administer both Cal & D3 for Cal deficiency (phone diagnosis). I need opinions on the best and safest way to administer. IE: Concentration diluted in baby food w/ water, separation of vitamins when dosing, & x per day. (Example only: 1/8 tablet 2 x per day and .03 D3 diluted in 3 mL suspension <baby food> 1 x per day)
Squirrel weight: 153 Grams
Calcium tablets: 600 mg tabs Calcium Carbonate
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Vitamin D3 Liquid: Whole foods brand, vegetarian, alcohol free
Serving size: .03 mL
1000 IU 250%
Ingredients: Medium chain triglycerides oil (Palm Kernal Oil)
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
This is what I have to work with at present

I assume you want to supplement calcium. You're not treating for MBD, right?
What does your calcium supplement say on the back label. Sometimes the labels are tricky. A 600mg tablet might not actually be 600mg.
You have to be VERY careful when administering Vit D3 with calcium. The Vitamin D3 increases the uptake of calcium which is a good thing to a point. Uptake of too much calcium will cause calcification of the organs and blood vessels. You can shut the kidneys down if it's done wrong. Frankly, I would never dose Vitamin D3 for someone elses squirrel.
For my flyers I bought Flukers Calcium with Vitamin D3. It has 100,000 IU per pound. Occasionally I will dust something they like with the powder.
Let's just say that I am very cautious when using Vitamin D as it is used as a rodenticide.
Your product says 1000 IU per drop. That sounds pretty potent to me.

This may be MBD but in a dwarf and Dr E is not sure without an exam. Based on my discussion with Dr E the growth spurt may have used up more calcium than taken in.
Is the the one you use?

I have taken a photo of the back of the Cal bottle I have. Skipping the Vitamin D drops how would you dose my tabs or Flukers based on a 153 gram dwarf? Let's assume MBD.

Could not find Flukers, is dusting with that just a prophylaxis? What are your thoughts on either of these products as a dosage or dusting? Quality? Safety? Too much D3?

I would not dose for MBD with either of those products. I wouldn't use the Flukers either for that purpose. Megadosing calcium is one thing but you never want to megadose Vitamin D. For my flyers it's just an occasional dusting... like the worms or something else. It's more of a preventative.

I was reading MBD treatment information on The Ark Wildlife Care and Sanctuary website and was surprised to see that they recommend administering calcium with vitamin D3 for MBD because it allows the calcium to be more readily absorbed. I know Vitamin D can be toxic in large quantities, so I’m not sure how one would determine how much wouldn’t be toxic?

Mel, Dr E doesn't read her Email often. If I Emailed you a question and photo can you open on your smartphone and forward it to her smartphone? I have her personal cellphone number if you don't.
I have a flip phone and cant do that. I do everything on a laptop.
