Please help. I have a 4 or 5 week old flying squirrel (eyes open for 2 days) who I think must have pneumonia. She has had troube eating and I feels sure that's what's happened, but don't know what to do for her. I have read on here to give Baytril, but can someone help me with the dossage? She weighs 17 grams.
Hi there. I'm sorry she is sick.
What is the strength of the Baytril you have.
What is she doing, trouble breathing? Is she making a clicking noise when she breathes. You can hold her up to your ear and listen.
Is this your first baby flyer? What are you feeding her and with what (syringe/nipple?)
Here's some more information but we need the strength and form of the baytril you have for dosing. https://www.henryspets.com/baby-squirrel-care/

She is not doing much of anything. she will squirm around some, but not much. She clicks when breathing occasionally, but not with every breath. Yes, its the first. Her and her brother were rescued from a burning tree 2 weeks ago. The boy is doing great. Being Sunday night, I cannot get any Baytril. I've asked around hoping some friends would have some but to no avail. We have Liquamycin LA-200. Any way to use dilute and use that?

I am not sure if liquamycin is safe for squirrels. Is the product you have intended for injection?
Feeding her Esbilac Formula with a dropper.
A dropper is not a good way to feed little squirrels, a syringe is much better as it offers more control as to how much / how fast the formula is delivered.
Are you using the powdered Esbilac?
Cipro, Augmenting, Clavamox, Amoxicillin are all squirrel safe and effective for aspiration pneumonia... any chance of getting any of these tonight?
The Liquamycin LA-200 is injectable Terramycin that is indicated for use in cattle and swine. I don't think it would work here.
You can buy nipples and syringes on the site I listed earlier for baby squirrel care.

Oxytetracycline (Liquamycin) can be used for rats if dosed properly, I have no idea about flyers: http://ratguide.com/meds/antimicrobial_agents/oxytetracycline.php
Not my first choice for rodents - I would try to get a more appropriate antibiotic dosed by a vet. As stated Cipro, Augmenting, Clavamox, Amoxicillin are all squirrel safe
Not even mentioned in the Rat "Medical Corner": http://www.rmca.org/Articles/dchart.htm
How is this baby? I just noticed a message on my wall you left yesterday but I think I had already answered you in your thread, and so did Spanky.
