We have a baby squirrel that fell from a tree about 3-4 weeks ago. Momma came back for the others but not her so we have been caring. Everything has been going very well until last night. She aspirated a little formula and is now clicking.

I have humidifier setup and some vicks nearby. Her energy levels have dropped maybe 20%. She is still eating although a little less, she is urinating and pooping. We have cut her formula with pedelyte to maintain hydration.

But she seems to be breathing a little rapid and I hear some clicks. So I think maybe I should start on some AB. I have cipro 500mg tablets but dont know the dosage.

She weighs 7.9 ounces.

Located in north Georgia USA

Is the clicking with every breath, or intermittent?

Do not mix pedialyte and formula, if hydration is needing provide the pedialyte in between formula feedings.

If she weighs 7.9 ounces that is about 240 grams, which is a fairly large baby. Is her fur long and her tail fluffy?

Yes she is fully furry and fluffy tail.

Clicking is in breathing in and out, but not heavy seems to be increasing since this afternoon.

I wasn't able to get her to take the pedialyte earlier and wanted to keep up hydration so I had to mix.

She is fed by a 1ml syringe.

Working on a pic.

After hydration is well supported, a probiotic-prebiotic formula is recommended by veterinarians to be given concurrently with ABs to support digestive and immune health.

Rehabbers advice for dosage measure?

DO NOT MIX pedialyte and formula.

Sorry, I did not intend to sound harsh or rude, was up feeding babies and checked in... I am just a bit sleep deprived.

It is never recommended to mix pedialyte with formula as it is counterproductive (to both getting the baby nutrients and / or hydrating). If she will not take pedialyte (did you offer it very warm?), maybe try some slightly sweetened water (using molasses or syrup or sugar if you have nothing else).

:Welcome to TSB and yes, please post some pictures of your baby for us... we love :flash

Veterinarians advise that Prebiotic/probiotics be used concurrently with ABs to support digestive and immune health.

Yes, this was advised with dosing... give 2 hours before or after antibiotic :thumbsup.

Edit: I think the "?" was added after my reply... just a tiny pinch mixed with water should suffice.

What type of formula are you feeding her?

It was offered warm, but she doesn't like it.

Here is a pic of her a few minutes ago.

She is being fed the puppy formula. She has been also munching on the rodent block as well recently.

Here is the puppy formula she should be getting (they are not all the same), the powdered Esbilac with pre/pro-biotics:

She seems to be doing better today. Slept well last night and ate this morning although not her full feeding. She eliminated fine and is super speedy squirrel. Sometimes I think she teleports she moves so fast.

Kept the humidifier on most of the night and some vicks in the room.

She has had one dose of AB at around 3am and then some probiotic at around 6am. Clicking is noticable but quieter now.

Turbo squirrel mode has been reactivated. She is super active and attentive, energy levels back up to 125%

Aw. Make the little maniac rest, even if she doesn't want to. A meal and some warmth usually will do the trick!
