I have a baby that I just got from another rehabber and it has been on albon for the past week for coccidia. I do not have any albon on hand, but I do have Toltrazuril 150MG/DMSO 1%.
This 120 gram, healthy baby, does not have diarrhea anymore, and has had solid feces for the last three days. Do you think I should continue treating for coccidia even though it seems cleared up? If so, can I use the Toltrazuril to finish treatment and what is the dosage?
Thanks,
Lois Jones

Do you know if the baby tested positive for coccidia or did the rehabber just treat to be sure based on symptoms?
The Toltrazuril (Baycox) is used in squirrels but I am not sure what it is you have. We normally see 2.5% and 5% in a liquid form - it is actually produced this way for the lizard folks. It sounds like you may have a pill of some kind - I am assuming this is for equine use? I am sure it can be broken down; just curious as to what it is you have.
Honestly, if he has had good poops for 3 days I would probably not introduce any more meds - especially if there was never a definitive test for coccidia - and keep an eye on him. If he begins to backslide he can be re-treated.

It is a liquid base that we get compounded at our local pharmacy, I will speak with the rehabber I got her from and see what she thinks.
Thank you so much for your help,

If she has good looking poops for 3 days, I would hold off treating for now. If something changes with her, let us know.

Toltrazuril is far more effective on coccidia than Albon now, I've been told. Albon is the old school treatment but the bugs have gotten resistant to it. Sounds as if the Toltrazuril did its job!
