I will post a video of a squirrel that ASPIRATED--and is making a clicking noise--
that usually means 2 things-
-1-he as might have pneumonia and
-2- he needs to start on antibiotics IMMEDIATELY.
I probably have the meds here--if you need them.

Here is the video--watch & listen for that clicking sound. CALL me IMMEDIATELY if Marley starts to make a similar noise.

UPDATE: I spoke with ROY at 7:05 am CR time ( 8:05 EST). Marley is breathing normally. The problem lasted almost an hour--but has passed. Roy will watch for any changes in sound or behavior.

Which is more effective against a possible pneumonia...?????

Same deal. Cipro actually changes to something more like Baytril in the body so it is possible that the Baytril itself could be a teeny bit faster.

Has Roy checked Marley's throat with a small penlight to see if he is choking on anything? I know it seems silly but newbies often do not realize when a baby is choking....

Marley started a dosing of Baytril at noon today. He was clicking and we didn't want to wait for it to get worse.
Roy has probiotics to give Marley as well, and I will be available to assist in any way needed. I spent some quality time today, making notes and diagrams and lists with Roy, & he is confident in taking care of Marley as instructed by TSB.
Keep this little GUY in all of your prayers. He is twice as old as my little Mancha baby girl
...and they BOTH weigh the same !!!

What do you suggest as a F.V to solids ratio ??

Honestly, Stosh, that baby needs to consume as much formula as he can right now. Any blocks you want to add should be just for nibbling on at this point - no reduction of formula feeding along with them.
Has anyone been able to find a source for goats milk in CR? Fresh, dried, canned?? Because making up the complete GM formula, with the heavy cream and whole milk yogurt, and using it for half of the formula to try to stretch the FV you have would be better than nothing...

I completly agree. This little one is so far behind as it is, there is no food that
will match what formula will do for him.
Formula is the best insurance against MBD. Keep him on it as long as possible.
Are you running low on FV?

I would order it from Henry's.
If you need it quickly do priotiry shipping.
Remember you want the Fox Valley 20/50.

Yes, you can give Marley the FV and the medicine at the same time.
Just don't mix it in the formula, in case he doesn't drink it all.
We need to know that he's taking all of his meds.:w00t

Get one of these for the protein, and get either the adult blocks or the picky blocks.
I always get the picky blocks as those are the only ones
mine eat.
Also remember this is flat rate shipping so get what you
want all at once. :w00t

So, 1 picky blocks, 1 baby squirrel proteína blocks and 1 FV 20/50.. Can you Tell me the brand of the picky blocks!?
Also it's ok if I give marley his medicine 2 hours before?Hes got to take it at 12pm and then at 12am. I rather do 10am and 10pm so I was thinking On giving him his med at 12pm and then at 10pm. His feeding schedule would look like this (this is what I'm trying to aim for):
8am Probiotics with juice
10am FV + medicine
2pm FV
6pm FV
8pm Probiotics with juice
10pm FV + medicine
3am FV
7am FV
8am Probiotics with juice
For the juice right now I have homemade mango jelly and I mixed it with water (all líquid, no sólids). Tell me if the schedule is fine!?
He is usually eating about 5.5cc every MEAL. Some times he refused but an hour later he'll take it!

We don't want to give him too much juice, sugar is not good.
AND we have no idea if this may cause diarrhea.
Would he take a little water with just a touch of honey for taste?
Are the probiotics the capsules that you pull apart? Did you taste them?
The ones I use are capsules and they taste pretty benign, so they
take it readily. I'm not sure you have to mix it with that much fluid.

Understood, no more sugar for Marley!
I think he will take the honey with water. But when he takes honey he gets nuts.
Yes the Probiotics are the caosule that pull apart. No I heven't, should I?
The first/only 3 times I gave him the Probiotics I gave it to him with the food. So I heated the whole syringe and the took out about 2cc of the formula mixed with the Probiotics and then put It back in to the syringe (the syringe is about 5-6cc).

You CAN give him the probiotics with the formula. Give it to him in the first
syringe you offer him, then we'll know that he is getting the whole thing,
as long as he finishes his syringe.
OR
You can give him water with just a touch of honey for taste, and put the probiotic
in that.
Anyway you can get him to take it is fine.
Oh you don't have to taste it, I did because the ones I get are for humans, and
I wanted to see if I needed to disguise the taste.

I would. The injectable can cause skin ulcers at the injection site if it isn't diluted properly. BTW, this drug in a slightly different formulation is given to humans as an oral drug - I don't even think it is available as a shot. It is quite effective orally, providing it treats what the problem is.

-MARLEYS UPDATE-
He has been taking his med every 12hrs for 6 days. I just gave him one more dosage and at 10pm I'll Give him his last dosage, that will complete his 7 days of medication.
Around the 4th day of medication his breathing problem was almost gone, however he had like white mucus comming out of his nose (this was a coupple of hours after his meal. It was like formula but way more sticky. This happend twice but after that he got better). In the 5th day Marley did'nt show any breathing problem.
In this moment Little Marley is'nt that little, He is looking a lot bigger and stronger. I belive his weight is about 100gr or more but I'll confirm that soon, once I get some batteries for the scale.
He is eating FV every 4 hours with no problema. I can tell he loves that stuff... Yesterday he tried some local fruits that Stosh gave me he respond very good at all of them.
His poop is gold again and is'nt showing any diharrea sign. He poops at least once a day and by him self. Also he is peen several times a day.
Overrall my little buddy is good thanks to you guys and Stosh.
I just have some questions.
Q1- When can I start giving him fruits and how many times a day? Also how many grams?
Q2- He tried picky blocks yesterday and he kind of liked it at the beggining but now he does'nt wanted any more. How can I make him eat it?
Q3- Is there any vacunation/ inyecction that Marley needs? (For any desease that he can transmite or get).
Q4- My GF and I are planing to keep him. Any suggestions of how to take care of him? We like to put him On our bed
So he can climb and run around the pillows and sheets. Also we let him Go around the house (we always watch him, we never leave him alone when he goes around the house and also we check that there is no danger like cables, scorpions etc) Q4.1- would all of this affects he's behavior in a negative way? Q4.2 Should I take him out to the Garden?
Q5- When can I stop feeding him at 3:30 am? Can I leave a picky blocks or something else so he can eat if he gets hungry? Maybe Sunflowerseeds, almonds, walnuts ( I've read peanuts are bad for them, are they?).
I'll post pictures in a couple of hours

Hi Roy, I’m glad to hear Marley is doing good. I’ll try to answer your questions. I’m sure others will, too.
Diet is extremely important in a captive squirrel. Look up the healthy food pyramid in the Squirrel Nutrition section and see what foods are available in your area. Stosh will be a great help in helping you find local foods that are equivalent. Fruits are typically offered in small amounts. Leafy greens and other vegetables are healthier. You want Marley to eat a rodent block very well before you offer other foods. Then start with veggies so he doesn’t develop a sweet tooth for fruits. Henry’s picky eater blocks will mold so they will need to be discarded if not consumed when put in the cage. Just be aware and check them. Marley can have two per day once he starts eating them. It takes some time for little ones to develop a taste for them and really consume them. You can also order Harlan Teklad 2018 block online. Marley can eat as much of that block as he wants. Other blocks that you might be able to find locally are Zupreem and Mazuri rodent block. I’m sure Stosh would be able to tell you if they are available locally.
No vaccinations are necessary
Free roam while being monitored is always a good idea if you want him to be social with you. Handling him helps him to remain friendly. I wouldn’t take him outside in the garden for fear that he may get spooked and run. Taking him outside in a cage for sunshine is recommended weekly, but he has to be monitored and be able to get out of the sun if it gets too hot. The sunshine provides vitamin D which helps him absorb calcium which is what prevents metabolic bone disease. Metabolic bone disease can kill a squirrel by pulling the calcium from their bones. This is why diet is so important.
I would think that the 3:30 am feeding could be dropped. How old is he now? Leaving block for him to eat is good. No sunflower seeds and no nuts till he is eating block really well. Seeds and nuts have a very unbalanced calcium to phosphorous ratio and can lead to metabolic bone disease. For this reason they are given in very limited quantities.
I know how much these little fuzzbutts completely steal your heart. :Love_Icon I also think that Stosh has encountered many obstacles in caring for his guys because of his location. Please think through your decision to keep Marley and be prepared for the obstacles you may encounter like medical care, etc.
(we always watch him, we never leave him alone when he goes around the house and also we check that there is no danger like cables, scorpions etc)
Oh, you know. Things like scorpions, etc.
I almost fell out of my chair. Boy will I think twice before complaining about stink bugs!
