View Full Version : My Squirrel Is Very Sick

Hi,

I found Squirrely, well, he found me about a week ago. I was waiting at a bus stop for my son and this little guy, I presume is between 4 and 5 weeks, came walking toward me slugishly and with no balance. We have been feeding him dog milk replacement mixed with heavy whipping cream for fat. He has gotten a bit crazy with and here and there with food bubbling up his nose here and there. Now, he is showing signs of pneumonia. Honestly, I don't have the funds to go to the vet at the moment. It took all I had to give him a nice little home and get all the food and toys he needed... I'm broke for a couple of weeks and I don't want the little guy to die.

I searched my cabinets and the only antibiotic I have in the home is Doxycycline Hyclate 100 MG tablets. Is there any way this can be used to treat Squirrely? If not, are there any over the counter options that I could try. I feel bad for the little guy and am hoping to bring him back to health. He just started making the clicking noise recently but has been shaky on his walk since I got him with occasional twitches that resemble some videos I've seen of pneumonia. Now with the clicking, I'm pretty sure that's what it is. Please help me dose Doxycycline for this little guy.

Yes, we will use the doxycycline.
Do you happen to have a kitchen scale?

Another question, how old is the doxycycline?

Thanks for your response. I do not have a kitchen scale, but my mom is just down the street with one, I can go grab it. The date on the bottle is 8/27/18 so we're good to go on it, it's not expired.

If you could give me calculations as in AMT of Doxy per Gram of squirrel weight, that would be great, also, I have no idea how to break it down and get it into his system. any assistance would be great!
