One of my sweet babies that was released late August stopped by for a treat. I noticed this bump and bare spot on his tail. I'm a little concerned.
I loaded some pictures, or at least am trying to. Would anybody know what this might be? I would be so very appreciative of your thoughts.

I'm not too sure but if there is a little hole in the middle is probably a boy fly larvae. The best thing to do is leave it alone and wait for it to leave. It will get a little bigger if that's what it is. If there are more appearing on her, that could be bad so let us know.

Are you in Canada? If so, more likely an abscess as it is too cold up here in the North for flies yet. Is it maybe a puncture wound that has developed into an abscess?

I had a release squirrel last year with a bump like that. Somebody had bit her. It healed up and the bump went away eventually.

Gee! I'm not far from the Ontario border and I have the exact same situation here, also with one of my releases fro last summer. Also one of my olittle black guys. It doesn't seem to inconvenience him, he goes on as usual, but the bump has not changed at all so farand it's been more than a week.

Thanks for the thoughts!
The 'wound' does seem to have a small hole in it. At first I figured he was bitten by another animal... maybe the hole was a tooth mark.
It is cold here but the bugs are emerging. Ladybugs all over, and saw an earwig today. Even some flies in the window. So, I guess it could be the boy fly larvae. I haven't seen my baby boy in a few days but will try to get an updated pic, if I can.
If it's an abscess, what can I do to help??
