Hello everyone.
I have a mangy squirrel that clearly has a case of bugs/parasites. They're the ones that burrow under the skin, and create hair loss all over the body as they migrate from affected areas.
I have Ivermectin, but was told not to use it as this squirrel has had a few seizures caused by MBD in the past. However, it's been a while since any seizures have manifested and would like to know if it is okay to try an Ivermectin treatment?
This squirrel is also on low, decreasing doses of Prednisone, as it has hind leg trouble.
I'm aware that I need to give a rice grain sized portion of the Ivermectin once a week for a period of three weeks, but was looking for a 'go ahead' from experienced people.
I've tried looking into getting some Revolution instead, as it was recommended, but I can only order it online with a prescription, and cannot get it in my area as no vet will give it to us over the counter without seeing the animal in question. Squirrels are illegal to keep in a house where I am from, so that's out of the question (though if anyone has a source to get some Revolution (selamectin), I would be incredibly grateful.
Thank you.

The Ivermectin treatment regimen is always posted on here. I think it's under nonemergent. Not sure but it's on here for you to view anytime. The dose is the size of a grain of rice. Read the post on it from the experts before doing this.

Is your little one an inside squirrel? I am wondering where it could have picked up mites from if living indoors. I do not suppose you have a cat or dog and could get a dose of revolution from a vet that way?

I'm aware of the treatment and of the dosage, as clearly stated in my post. I asked about post-MBD use of Ivermectin, specifically.

I picked this squirrel up from the outdoors. I have two cats, but the squirrel is kept in a separate room with no contact from the cats. The cats have also never gotten any mites of any sorts.
The problem with picking up Revolution from the vet is that every single one asks to bring the cat in to verify the symptoms before giving medication. Vet laws in Quebec are very strict.

Revolution is used in cats and dogs monthly as a topical flea and heartworm preventative. Your cats should not have to show symptoms of anything for the vet to give it to you. I am sure they would want to do an exam on the cat first so they have a vet/patient relationship before prescribing though. Also, I believe the ideal revolution to use is the one for kittens/puppies since it is much less concentrated. It seems like you could use a more concentrated form (for adult cats) as long as you (or someone helped) figure out the correct dose and dilute it down accordingly. Has this squirrel been inside for a while though? It seems weird to start showing symptoms of sarcoptic mange now unless it was recently outside.

Revolution (the one for puppies and kittens is the type you want) can be purchased WITHOUT a RX from online at Joespetmeds.com. The company is based in Australia and folks on here order from the website all the time.
