This afternoon my Roxy appeared to be throwing up what looked like white foamy substance after eating some nuts and a peeled grape. She's been on her own for nearly two years now thriving on my property and had her third litter of babies in July. She could be pregnant again. I never saw her do this before. At first she appeared to be choking, then this white stuff seemed to flow out of her mouth. It looked like she was trying to recover some of the food that she threw up which wasn't a pleasing sight. After several minutes she looked to be OK and she scampered away. My guess is she may have had some indigestion momentarily. Has anyone seen a squirrel do this ? Any comments will be appreciated. Many thanks...............

Grape skin can be a bit choke inducing. Maybe she had a piece caught in her throat?

I always make sure that 'all' skin is peeled as well as rinsed before feeding her any grapes. Have you heard of a squirrel doing this before ?

thanks,

I don't know about squirrels, but one of my dogs does JUST THAT. She's an old boxer mix, but will eat some things with such ferocity that she will gag and throw up. Much of what follows is white foamy stuff. Our vet said some dogs are just prone to this...they eat a lot of something they like very quickly (for our dog, it's her dry food that she gets twice a day...or if she drinks a bunch of water quickly), and then trigger their gag reflex by hiccupping or not swallowing properly. Since the food has just-been-eaten, it's still identifiable...so why not eat it again? :dono

In my humble opinion, I'd just watch her and make sure she isn't doing it too regularly...or with ALL foods.

About a year ago, I had a squirrel vomit up white foamy stuff and maybe even some mushy food chunks right in front of me outside in the yard. I was very concerned, it was a wild squirrel that I knew as a friend. I remember that I saw it for the next week. That was so long ago, I don't remember who it was or anything more, but I am just replying that I have seen a squirrel vomit in the wild. I have never seen it since.

The food was vommited up on a bench, and within a day or two, it was eaten back up....
