Well I bought several pounds of post season Hazelnuts on sale. I always sample a few to make sure they are OK. This is what I found when I opened one up. I'm going to open a few to see if it's a bad batch. Mold can mean aflatoxins which can kill your squirrel.

Yikes! The exterior shell looks a bit old/dried up? Any visible signs?

Actually that's pieces of the interior. The exterior looked fine until it was opened. The pecans I bought were good.

Yes~~ This! Those look exactly like the moldy hazelnuts I almost gave Muggsy.

For opening / checking nuts this is the ultimate nutcracker! Even though he doesn't eat nuts it's approved by "Patches".
