My friend is in America visiting at the moment and has just seen a completely bald squirrel in central Park. I don't know why he is this way and if there is anything that can be done to help him but just wanted to let people know especially at this time of year. I don't know the exact area at the moment but my friend is going to let me know. I have attached a picture, hopefully it will work

Poor, poor little guy! My heart goes out to him, and I pray something can be done. Praying for a miracle. :grouphug

Maybe a nearby rehabber can bring some Ivermectin laced pecan halfs? Could you see if your friend remembers what general area of the park this squirrel was seen in?
I am assuming this was mange, but looking at that photo again, I wonder if this is just a mutation that causes hairlessness? In any event, poor thing must be cold with the temps we are having. :(

This is where she saw him, they all show the same location just at different zoom
Anyone have a good idea about how to check on this squirrel?

Hopefully, some of our NY based rehabbers will see this, I’ll alert one too. Not sure what can be done?

Capture if necessary. Bald squirrel won't last long in New York winter. Maybe increase in nutrition will help hair regrowth? Maybe skin treatment needed? Keep him warm and fed for winter anyway...

I will pass this on to our one and only Manhattan rehabber, possum mom. Hopefully she can help.

Unfortunately, I'm in Boston, but it seems that a live trap with some nuts in it next to that tree might eventually capture the adorable bald squirrel. I wish I lived nearby in a place where I could keep a squirrel for 2 adorable reasons now. I bet he's a mutation.
PS - I'm not a rehabber. And of course that trap would need to be monitored very closely for a variety of reasons including temperature and passersby.
