I would say any type of cotton or fleece tore up in pieces, stuff that will keep her warm. Shirts, thick socks, pile of leaves small sticks etc.

I believe the best type of nesting material to put out is the all natural type that the squirrels use - leaves and grass. I personally would not use any cotton, fleece etc as here I have noticed the squirrels never liked it and would throw it out which I believe was due to it retaining water if/when it got wet.

If you could possibly hang a nest box for her that would be a great help.
would hang a box but i dont believe she would find it.we live in town and have 1 tree on our side, i have never seen her go in it..
Are you and neighbors friendly enough to be able to explain your concern and ask if you could hang one in their tree for her?

You could always try hanging a nest box in your rafters. Put some food up in that location after the box is hung so she associates the box with good things. She may, or may not, choose to use it. I have a couple boxes up in trees that the squirrels don’t choose to use, even though they could. :dono:dono
