This adult squirrel has been coming to my yard for a while. She seems healthy. The last couple of days I noticed she was developing a sore on her left shoulder. I took pictures today. There has been pox in my area but this is the only sore I see on her at all. Has anyone seen this before? Thanks.

It is hard to say what that is? Could be Pox (I would expect other lesions around the eyes, mouth on her stomach etc) but it could also be some type of bite or injury? I would certainly try to make sure she has fresh, clean water and some treats so her stomach is full and she can keep up her strength. See if you can get a clear view of her stomach, and face. If no other lesions are visible, then my guess is some type of injury.

To me that just looks like a bite from another squirrel. The bite mark is the dot directly in the center of all of the missing fur. I have several squirrels with squirrel bites that look exactly like that. Once the bite starts healing my squirrels will scratch at it and with all the scratching more fur becomes missing all around the bite mark/area. I would continue to do what TD said - "try to make sure she has fresh, clean water and some treats so her stomach is full and she can keep up her strength".

It could also be a bot fly. Is the area without fur raised up a little bit?

It doesn't seem to be but I'll look closer. From pics I've seen of bot flies this didn't seem similar but it is a good suggestion. Thanks to all of you.

I will say that my released boy got into a fight with his brother and had several bite marks on the back of his neck. In a couple of places there were multiple bites. The areas scabbed up but the hair all around the bites fell out, not just where the sores were. This could explain the circle shape around what might be the remains of a scab in the middle.
