Hi there, I have a 6 month old eastern grey squirrel. She at first bit me and broke skin only once or twice. And then she stopped. But lately she’s been pretty mouthy. Hasn’t been trying to break skin or bite hard, more or less like she’s playing like a kitten. But I don’t want her to get into a habit of biting or always being mouthy. If this is just how they are then I will learn to accept that. But if there’s something I should be doing I’d love some input. She calms down while I’m itching and rubbing on her.

i am not a expert but I have to say they are just plain that way!! Everything in their world is pretty much done with their teeth and mouth. play biting they can draw blood with those strong teeth. If she is not being aggressive then its just her being who she is. we all have scatches, cuts and bites its part of the deal.

I figured. But i wanted to make sure. Plus i just found this forum site and am very happy to be able to post questions with fellow squirrel owners! :)
Being "mouthy" is a normal thing. Any bite that hurts or breaks skin (unless they've been hurt or spooked) is not. Momma and siblings wouldn't accept it either. Make an Ah Ah Ah sound very sternly and put the squirrel in it's cage. Be patient but consistent. They will learn quickly....

this board is amazing.... welcome😁 most importantly read all you can in the nutrition area. their diet is crucial to their survival in captivity if you choose not to release her. My boy is 3 years old. love of my life!!!!! If it were not for this board i know he would not be with me today. its a wealth of good information and good caring folks who love squirrels 💛🐿
I would add the reminder not to try and play with or handle your squirrel while she is trying to eat. Defending food is ingrained deepy...
