I have a baby grey squirrel that is verry bloated and just opened eyes any advice?
What are you feeding and how often?
Can you post a picture of his tummy?
Is he pooping?
Do not give the baby anything by mouth until we get the bloat down.
Do you have simethicone, (infant gas drops)
Please post a picture. If you can't post I will pm you my email and you
can send it to me.
He seems to be better and his tummy is not as tight.I have been feeding Hartz kitten milk 4 times a day. I read to soak him up to his armpits in warm water and massage him. He has had diarrhea mixed with hard stools also I do have the infant gas drops you suggested. We will give it all a try. Thank you!

He needs a different formula.
Hartz kitten formula is NOT nutritionally balanced for squirrels
We suggest Powdered Puppy Esbilac like pictured below, OR Fox Valley 20/50
which has to be ordered on line.
You can get the Esbilac at most pet stores. Just make
sure you get the powdered one, and not the liquid in the can.
How much does your little one weigh?
We feed 5-7% of their body weight.
Yes you can give him a couple of drops of the infant gas x a couple of times daily, if needed.
Is this your first squirrel?
Here's a great link about Baby Squirrel Care.

His diarrhea is undoubtedly because of the Hartz kitten milk. Please get the correct Esbilac formula ASAP. We typically transition slowly to a new formula but I’m not sure if that is best in this situation since he’s not on the correct formula now. I hope others will chime in.
Switch this baby over straight away. Flush that kitten formula out of his system with hydration between meals (warm water). Make sure this baby is fully hydrated before you begin feeding the Esbilac powdered puppy formula and be sure to mix it thoroughly and let it sit in the fridge for at least 4 hours before using so it dissolves completely. Babies just opening eyes should be feed at least every four hours with a bit longer break at night. Get baby on the correct formula, feed a bit more often, feed the correct amount based on weight and keep hydrated and your problems should resolve.
We'd love a photo!

I would put him on straight pedialyte for 12 to 24 hours and let that kitten formula flush out. Then I would start him on 1/2 strength espilac for the first 3 feedings, then 3/4 strength for 2 feedings and then full strength. Gives his tummy a chance to clear out and gets his hydration up to speed.

Nancy, Mel, Cava and FM are right on with this. :great Flush his system out with hydration, start diluted Esbilac and gradually transition over to full strength Esbilac. The kitten formula has much too much protein and will play havoc with his GI system.

How’s this baby doing? Has his bloat subsided and do you have him on the correct powdered Esbilac formula?

This member hasn't been on since the 28th.
I feel frustrated when people need and get the help they want, and we never
hear from them again. :(
We learn from our successes and failures. But it's the not knowing
that's difficult.
