Hello! I just wanted to update you all on Peanut. He's doing great. I have started chopping his food up extremely small and he can eat on his own very well! He eats while I'm at work and he is still taking formula once or twice a day. He loves apples and grapes! Thank you all for your help and support!!!! 😁

Here is Peanut hanging out with his dad. He has very weak hands and cannot hold onto anything for very long. That is why I have to chop his food up so small so he can eat without my help. He's the absolute sweetest baby ever. He's almost 5 months old, he seems small, does anyone else think so?

Oh he's just precious!
He does look small, but not skinny.
What's his diet like?
He's adorable! :klunk

Obviously neurological problems, and un-releasable. :(

I thought maybe it was neurological problems and he was probably unreleasable, now it is just confirmed :( I'm sad for him not having a real squirrel life, but he ALWAYS has a home here with me! He is so sweet and innocent and deserves a good life inside or outside. If anyone has any cage ideas or things their squirrels like in their cages the most. He has a very large cage, plenty of room to play. Most of his stuff is at the bottom of the cage because I wasn't sure if climbing would be safe for him. I did order a wooden rope ladder that should be here soon. But any ideas are appreciated! Thank you!

I used to feel bad for Sammy when I first realized he was an NR, then one day it just hit me....he didn’t feel bad about it! He turned 1 in July and has zero desire to be anything other than what he is, where he is. :Love_Icon

Nancy in New York, his diet consists of Fox Valley 20/50 formula about 15 ml 2x a day. Apple's, grapes, sweet potato, carrots, sweet pea pods, celery leaves, celery, broccoli stems, mushrooms and tomatoes. I need to find out which flowers he can eat. He doesn't care for strawberries that well lol. Is there anything else anyone else's babies like a lot that I could try?

I would see if you can get him to take some type of block. Henry’s Healthy blocks (order online) would be a good one to try. They come in an assortment of varieties. I have had the best luck with the wild Bites, but others have had great luck with the picky eater ones. If he doesn’t take to Henry’s then I’d try making boo balls with Harlan Teklad 2018 block (order online). It’s ground up then mixed with ground nuts and you can add powdered formula, extra calcium or peanut butter powder. Then mix in baby food and coconut oil just enough to make the dough moldable. Refrigerate and form into balls. The block isn’t so important while he is taking formula, but once he’s weaned it provides a multitude of nutrients in addition to veggies.
My guys like hammocks and fleece cubes that can be hung. Obviously your little guy might need them hung close to the floor of the cage. :grin2

Doodles ( my weeble / wobble grey girl ) loves her cozy cube ( hung low so she can grasp it and pull herself in)! Also, we have LOTS of padding in their large room as she falls frequently when she tries to climb . Another conversion starter is all the hanging nets/blankets in their room... You probably wouldn’t need all that, unless like her, he tries to be a real tree squirrel ( climb as high as possible) only to loose grip and fall...In that case, you could make four homemade “hammocks “( pillow cases, old blankets) to go around the perimeter of his cage , midway high or lower. Poor Doodles is a daredevil in spite of her walking/climbing challenges.... Life would be so much simpler if I just stuck her in a cage :( But she was raised with her one-eyed sister, ( Fat Dandies) and quirky Snickers who have run of this large porch room... She would be so depressed without them. Hence, the “trapeze “ accessories lol, ( and tons of extra laundry... but love my crippled girl) She also LOVES to climb on propped up firewood pieces! You could build him a climbing arrangement in a cage that big. Rearrange them every week for mental stimulation . I make her bridges, caves etc with natural wood parts WITH bark. She has gripping issues too, and the bark makes it easier to grab onto her stuff to play :) Hope this helps!

Thank you all for the ideas! I'm definitely going to get him some soft stuff to climb up/in! Also I forgot to mention he does have a block too that I crush and sprinkle on his food. :)
