Snickers , Doodles and Dandies have lived peacefully together for 3 years. Yesterday, I thought I heard a scuffle in their patio room, but by time got out there all was well. This morning, when I opened the door for Snickers to go out ( she sleeps inside, by me in a cozy cube for seizure alert) dang Dandies went Pitt Bull on her!! Snickers was terrified, kept running away but Dandies would pounce, roll her, biting etc. I didn't want to get chainsawed so I swatted Dandies away best I could, opened the door, and let Snickers run back in. I'm wondering if it's over the fresh , hard shelled nuts we've been giving... maybe Dandies feels threatened that her nest will be raided? But this room is so big; they each have their separate hangouts (although Dandies WILL allow her parapalegic sister climb in her sling to snuggle at night). They all have plenty to share; maybe get one, two at most nuts a day. Each usually goes their own direction to either eat or stash it.
I waited about an hour, and tried again. Snickers was very reluctant but she hopped in, only to be bushwhacked again!! I had the door open this time, so she immediately ran back in, with a tiny bit of blood on her nose 😞. This is sad. Snickers practically raised these two nonrelease orphans. Dandies looks like a small beaver , no worries about starving to death. This just really kind of messes up the delicate balance we have with kids, other pets. The flyers have claimed out master bathroom. Plenty big enough for them, and easy to protect them during out of cage time ( Air Force is out " sign on door when they are active. I guess we can attempt to keep all other pets out of our bedroom 😕 but you've had kids, you know how it goes about closing doors etc. I'm home 5/7 days a week, but just nervous about a freak accident. So far, most of our pets seem Snickers safe, but you never can trust a cat.
Another concern is Snickers and her seizures- she was literally hyperventilating, and on the cusp of having one it seemed. She's on Keppra and almonds twice daily.
Is this something that will pass , perhaps when Fall is over?? I will do whatever is best for her- keep her in ( and pray kids read the signs) or send Dandies to anger management classes??

The first thing I would do is go through this communal squirrel area like a CSI and collect every single nut out there and get them out. Nothing makes them as crazy as a stash. Then I would wait a couple days before you try again.

Is there another room where you can introduce them to see if there is nastiness still? A room that nobody has "claimed"? Like neutral territory. Often the "newness" is enough of a distraction that it will go okay. If it does, try it in your freshly nut-free squirrel room and see. This could be hormonal craziness, too.

Thanks , I'll do that tonight while my rabid acting Dandies is asleep. Here is Snicker's in her emergency Shelter for battered Swuirrels". A little to close to the camode, but this is the spot ( between bathroom door and toilet - of all places??) she wanted to make her daytime nest. See her little body nose?? She's quite happy being a full time house squirrel , and personally, I don't mind at all. But at night , I know she's safe in her cube ( in a large cage) from the other pets, and open doors are fine. It's just the daytime traffic through the house that worries me. This is the only large enclosed room we have available for them . So maybe if I rearrange stuff, and get the nuts out, hopefully piggy girl will settle down. I didn't realize how rotund Dandies has gotten; really doesn't need anymore treats!

Just an update, the CSI was a success! Today, Snickers was safely accepted back into the porch room ( woods) . All nuts and empty shells have been removed, and Snickers was able to repair her disarrayed ground nest that Dandies had apparently roughly searched for hidden treasures. There were a few warning signals from all three, but no further physical attacks :) I still bring Snickers in at night , and will be careful to monitor her morning transfers. Nuts must be like cocaine to them!!

Great news! I hope this continues and Snickers can go back to her peaceful life.

Food stashes bring out the nasties with squirrels, they become extremely territorial around them.

I am so glad that the babies are back to being friends.. I'm Here for the same reason well kinda, I have 3 of these lovelies... Same litter... I have had to leave them in their cage for a few days over Thanksgiving holiday because my Mom was here and I couldn't have them out it would be a disaster if she got scratched... She has to do Dyalisis 3 times a week.. anyway I just got in the cage with them sang their Lullaby Songs while tucking them in and they're used to getting out 5 times a day for running around and playing.. the nuts hadn't been a problem till this happened... I usually give them while they are playing.. So,tommorow nuts are going back to the common room and I will Pray that it helps she's more aggressive towards Me giving the other 2 attention... And has been more so with them then usual.. Goes to show even Animals need their routine
