Driving home from work, hubby calls and says there's a squirrel at the front door. Okay, odd, but whatever. Squirrels runs off, so hubby goes about his business. He goes into the back yard and notices a squirrel again. Squirrel runs towards back of property.
2 of the 3 squirrels in the RC start talking to this squirrel and then squirrel curls up and stops moving.
I finally get home and squirrel is breathing, but has head curled under. I grab squirrel and put HIM in a temp cage with some blankets and a block, which he gratefully accepts. I offer water in a syringe, which he also accepts.
I start feeling his body and he makes a little noise when I mess with his right foot. I offer metacam, he takes it willingly. I notice that he urinated on himself at one point because his bottom is all wet, but it must have been outside as there's no pe in the cage.
Now he's curled up, head down, in a temp cage in my bathroom. I don't know who he is (halokakana has been helping this past baby season and this was her batch in the RC). If he's from the RC, we can't figure out how he escaped and all 3 were there during this morning's feeding.
Also, his body temp feels cool.
What else can I do?
Hi! Good to see you!
I'll just remind you of the basics, because I know you know: food, water, warmth, quiet/stress free, clean and dry, meds and time.
It sounds like you are on top of it. Hopefully after a night inside with rest and pain meds you can get a better look at that foot and figure out what he needs. Seems odd he was a the front door, that he took a block and was so easy to handle. May be he is one of yours.
I hope he recovers quickly and that you are well! :hug

Thank you! Got all that down, I just feel I'm missing something. Maybe I'm just freaking because I deal with babies, not adults...
Weird thing is no one ever uses the front door, so we don't even have our scent there! He looks small, so I'm hesitant to believe he's one of ours, but like you said, he almost must be..
Edit 5:59pm
Got growls! And bit! And he's starting to groom himself. Of course all it takes is for me to finally decide to post in the emergency section for him to perk up...
Growling AND biting? That ungrateful brat! JK, sounds like he is snapping out of his daze.

Sounds like it. Wish I knew what caused it....
Now he makes me look foolish :tap
Keeping him at least overnight to evaluate and will release tomorrow, depending on his condition

Maybe the meds kicked in and made him feel 10 feet tall and bulletproof. He’s either a previous relief or the squirrel gossip in your area has spread!:laugh2

He definitely don't feel well in that picture, don't let the pain meds fool you into
releasing too soon. Obviously there is a problem.... :dono

Update: He's doing much better today. The weather doesn't look so great here, so I'm holding him another day. He's not overly aggressive, so I'll continue to monitor him. He's not acting like he's in pain anymore. I'm wondering if he maybe fell?

That is what I was guessing too. I would hold on to him until he is jumping around, slightly pissed off and rearing to go.:grin2

Poor guy!
Since he is cold, placing a heating pad on one side of the cage beneath a doubled over towel, with the towel placed directly under the cage, might keep him more comfortable. If not doable perhaps a couple of rice buddies having moved the rice around to make sure they aren't too hot, to put in with him.

I guess what I’m not understanding is are you short one squirrel in the RC?
