Ugh, I feel like the worst squirrel mom but I really am trying my best! I let Susie out to play (which I do every day) and I forgot to turn off the scentsy warmer. She jumped on it and it splashed wax on her :( I got in touch of scentsy who said it was relatively safe if ingested by humans or animals in small doses (as she was trying to get it out of her fur) this was about a week ago, she seems healthy. Last night I noticed a bald spot by her right arm that had a chunk of wax in it (she was obviously trying to get rid of it) I used coconut oil and succesfully removed all the wax. Idk if it's cuz it was coconut oil and she loves it but this morning the bald spot is red and a sore is forming, as if she's been licking it. What can I do before this turns bad???

The spot could have burned from the hot wax. You need some one to help you with this question. Keep bumping your thread till one of the rehabbers catches it.

I hope not but it really really doesn't look like a burn there was no redness at all yesterday it literally looked like a spot that she licked bald and I think it's red today cuz she was licking the coconut oil off cuz she loves coconut oil. But I don't want it to
Get worse

Still better to ask than assume. Can you send a picture of the spot? That might help...

It may be almost like a hot spot on a dog - starts as something small and they fuss at it until it gets nasty.

Try this - VERY EASY and very effective for any sort of skin issue that you don't know what it is... Go to the drug store to where they have wound care stuff. You will find bottles of Betadyne 10% Povidone Iodine. Once you find the Betadyne, then get the store brand sitting right next to it that also says 10% povidone iodine and buy that, saving several dollars! It is the same stuff.

Do NOT use it straight.

Pour a quarter cup of water in a dish and add about 20 drops of the iodine. Soak a little cloth or cotton ball in it and saturate the area on the animal you are having issues with, and just leave it to dry naturally. It doesn't sting and if they lick it it won't hurt them but it doesn't taste good (this is a big problem with using coconut oil on animals). It is also anti-bacterial and anti-viral so it will clear up just about anything. Wipe the area down at least twice a day - 3 is better if you can. Make a fresh bath of the betadyne and water each time. It doesn't leave any color or residue on the fur, wither.

The first time you put it on you may want to rub and dab at the area with it to see if you can get as much of the coconut oil off of him as you can.

BTW, this will work just as good for humans as it does for animals!

Thank you SO much! And this for sure is safe for her to lick if she chooses to??

Yup. Since what you are putting on is essentially water with just a bit of the iodine added, there will be nearly no residue left once it dries TO lick off. It isn't sticky or anything - when dry it will look like you wiped him down with water. I doubt what is left behind is going to taste very good, either. I have used this a number of times on squirrels.
