Hello everyone,

I have been taking care of my little Adam since last September and went through a lot to build her a Disney release cage on my yard, which I had to modify due to raccoons issues (posted in another thread), long story short she’s been in the RC since late August so approx for 2 months now. In the meanwhile I also had to fix the room that she lived in for a year as my Lanlord announced me that he needed to enter the permises literally just a few days after transitioning her outside, this was an intense moment and then I got myself into building her a luxury nestbox with exterior & intwrior predator guards, insulated, double walls, to put up on my tree in my backyard next to the RC (I’m hoping to do so tomorrow) and then I’d open the portal and she’d be free and have free access to the RC as she pleases. I live in Toronto Ontario, the weather has bit chilly on some days, we had a couple of cold windy nights and warmer other ones, the forecast of next week says that the weather will be warm (way warmer than the norm at this time of the year) like even tonight I’m just wearing a thin hoodie and I’m not cold.. there are still leaves on all trees, and a few trees started to loose some. It’s still green out here. My question is, is it too late to release my Adam?? This has been such a stressful experience for me and I’ve worked so hard to get her where she is now, I’m just fearing that it may be too late and have to wait another year?? Any guidances will be of tremendous help. Thank you in advance.

Oh also...I noticed this on Adam a few weeks ago, I thought it was just her winter coat adjusting but it didn’t go away, it’s like there’s a spot with missing fur (it’s not bare skin, the under winter coat is there but it’s miasibg the top part with longer hair)

One more question sorry. When is it ok to leave unlimited nuts outside for them? As soon as they are free?

I'm going to add Toronto to subject to get the attention of our
CA members to hopefully answer your question and advise.
Personally I won't even release here this time of year, but that's me.

Thank you for your reply and help. May you please tell me the reasons why you prefer not to release at this time? And where are you located?

I live in Maryland, I personally do not release in the winter months. The trees are starting to shed leaving a higher visibility to predators, the hawks & fox have already shown up to stake their winter hunting grounds.
Tree cavities and dreys already claimed by the locals, food sources have already been gathered and drying up.
It would be an unfair advantage for one's not "seasoned" to the area and throw them into survival mode to either get run off, beat up, starved or killed.
I rehab for their survival, I release at an appropriate time giving them time needed to develop their natural instincts for their best chance at that survival.
