Hi and :Welcometo TSB.

Just need to find out a little information about your baby. I can't tell from the picture if she's bloated or just has a fat little tummy. I am wondering, does her tummy feel hard or is it soft? I noticed you said she has started to poop so I don't think she has bloat. Esbilac in some cases has caused a bit of constipation or bloat in some babies. Just to be sure that it's not the Esbilac causing any trouble I would move her to the 50-50 Esbilac/Fox valley mix as you have said. I think the 50-50 ESB /FV mix is better anyway.

I am wondering why you think that the Esbilac doesn't smell like it should? Is it old? Have you always stored it in the freezer? If it isn't old and it's been stored in the freezer I think it should be OK. If it is old I definitely would replace it. If it hasn't been stored properly it definitely could give her tummy issues.
I'm wondering if you could give us some background on your baby? Like how you found her and what might have happened to her?

*How long have you had her?

*Do you have a scale? Babies are fed 5 to 7% of their weight in mL or CCs. All medications are dosed by weight too. It is really important to know your baby's weight to determine if she is gaining weight and growing properly.

*What are you feeding her with?

*How much formula are you feeding her at each feeding?

*How many times a day are you feeding her? Depending on her age and weight it looks like you may be needing to feed her at least four times a day still.

*Are her eyes open?

*If she eating anything else other than formula? If so, what?

We can give better advice if we know more about your baby. :Love_Icon

My husband found her last week mowing. She was trhin and very dehydrated. Had pneumonia. Got her on pedialyte and AB. Did great... went to formula. Bought the Ebsilac just last week. Kept in fridge a day or two to freezer. Same with FV.
Her poop on ebsilac was rounder yellower... now on the 25/75 FV/EB its more like the above pic which looks more like it should to Me. Im not really sure what BAD formula smells like. I particularly dont like the smell of any milk like anyway. So would it be rancid now only after a week? Surely not. My nose is just sensitive? Lol. Ive fed her this mixture for two days ... ill try 50/50 tomorrow

*How long have you had her?

A whole week

*Do you have a scale? Babies are fed 5 to 7% of their weight in mL or CCs. All medications are dosed by weight too. It is really important to know your baby's weight to determine if she is gaining weight and growing properly.

Yes. She was a around 54g. I travel and took her with me on the tour bus... so... ill weigh her again in the morn when home. Below is pic of her sleeping with me in my bunk....

*What are you feeding her with?
Miracle syringe and nipple

*How much formula are you feeding her at each feeding?

Mmmm 3cc occasionally 4 at the time 2cc of antibiotic but stopped yesterday

*How many times a day are you feeding her? Depending on her age and weight it looks like you may be needing to feed her at least four times a day still.

She is around 5-6wks. Feed her 4-5 Times sleep at night

*Are her eyes open? Very! Soft belly too i dont think its too tight now that ive checked it

*If she eating anything else other than formula? If so, what?
Kaytee rodent block. Ive ordered henrys- And a small piece of banana .... just once every few days

Shes very active. Sweet.

She sure is darling. Just to clarify, are you mixing the formula and keeping the mixed formula up to a week in the fridge? Or do you mean you're keeping the powder (prior to use) in the fridge/freezer?

How often are you mixing a fresh new batch of formula and how long are you keeping it once it's reconstituted?

Powder in freezer. I mix fresh everyday. ... and use that up in a day.
1 TBSP powder / 2 water

Everything sounds good. You are letting the formula sit for several hours right? And mixing the powder into very hot water. The 5 to 7%of her body weight should be just right. If her tummy isn't hard and she's pooping I'm thinking it's not bloat. Anybody got ideas? She is a beautiful little girl :blowkiss

She is darling. :Love_Icon Does she have a name yet ?

If you are storing the powder in the freezer then all is good. Just take out what you need. Once you mix the formula you can safely use it for only about 24 hours as long as it has been kept in the refrigerator and kept cold. I usually only mix what I will use for the day. I only heat what I need for each feeding so the whole amount of mixed up formula doesn't get heated so many times a day. Heating all the formula every time could make it go bad. So you should mix a new batch of formula everyday. I mix mine at night before I go to bed. That gives it 5 or 6 hours to sit in the fridge and completely dissolve. You should wisk it to be sure it is well mixed.

Your baby seems a little small for her age but if you have only had her a week with your care she will gain weight soon. According to her weight you should be feeding her anywhere between 2.7cc - 3.8 cc at each feeding. So you are close on the amount of formula she should be eating at each feeding.

2cc of antibiotic seems like way too much for a dose of ABs for a 54 gram baby. Did you mean .2 cc or even .02 cc ? If she needs ABs again we can help dose what ever AB she needs for her weight.

Sounds like you are doing good with her. :Love_Icon Ask any questions you have. We will try to help with anything you need.

Oops I see others have asked some of the questions I did. Started the post and then went to feed. Lol

What kind of Fox Valley are you using?
Just to be on the safe side, are you using the Powdered Esbilac like
pictured below. We have had numerous members tell us they
are using Esbilac only to discover they are using PetLac puppy milk replacement.

Like UDoWhat said, the antibiotic dose is high, can you please verify the dose again,
and let us know what drug this is?

With the Cipro, you would have needed to dilute a 500 mg cipro tablet with 22 mLs of water first,
and then dosed a 54 gram squirrel 0.02. Anytime we dose, they are suppose to be on the drug for a number of days.
Was this just a one shot deal with the antibiotic?
In the future, let us help you with dosing.

Glad you have the correct Esbilac and Fox Valley.:w00t

I wonder why pedialyte.
I thought that was only good for 48 hours after it was open.

Edit: The 0.02 is the loading dose, given once. All other doses
are to be cut in half at 0.01 and dosed twice daily.
Probiotics given 2 hours prior or after dosing any antibiotic.

Well hello TJ Remmy. :wave123 She is adorable. :Love_Icon Never mind about mistaken her for a boy. It happens all the time here. We have a saying about that, "If you don't know if it is a girl or a boy ... then it is a girl." :grin3 Yes, it is that apparent.

So glad to hear your antibiotic dose was not 2cc. As Nancy said, your little one should be on the antibiotic for 5-7 days 2x a day. You sound like you have a lot of knowledge about raising little "things". Squirrels have some particulars unique to them so any questions or worries you have anyone here can help you with.

Just a reminder that you should weigh little TJ Remmy :Love_Icon at least a few times a week because the amount of formula you feed will/ should change almost daily. Baby squirrels that age can gain 2-5 grams a day. For now, I would stay somewhere between 5-7% of her weight for the day, 4-5 x a day. The #1 cause of diarrhea in baby squirrels is over feeding. Just a heads up. Lol

Remember we love to see pictures. She will grow so fast ! Thanks for sharing your little one with us and for saving her. :Love_Icon

I dont know why pedialyte ... but it certainly helped. Maybe cause she was so dehydrated at the same time. 🤷🏻*♀️...this girl is running circles in her cage thhis morning jumping and chirpin!

I don't think 0.04 daily would make a difference if she was so dehydrated.
We recommend giving hydration in between formula feedings when they are
dehydrated.

Glad your little girl is doing so well. We love pictures, so keep them coming.:w00t

Hahahaha--squirrel "junk". Most of the boys look like they're sporting Eifel Towers. You are a good squirrel mommy. And oh YEAH--you can NOT bore anybody with too many pictures here. Keep em cummin! Questions? Betcha somebody has an answer!

I have seen this recommend to mix with yucky tasting meds for flavoring. I usually use honey for flavor if I need ASAP or mostly because I deal with numbers of babies I have the meds compounded by my Vet. Whatever it was she is doing great. :w00t

Glad to hear she is feeling so good!! Running and playing... Music to our ears!!:violin(l couldn't resist seeing your screen name! Lol)
