I have never had a head trauma in such a little one and I am not certain of the heat protocol.
Should I use normal heat for their age since they cannot thermo-regulate?
Lower heat than normal?
I can't see not providing any heat at all given her age.

Vet administered dex (at my request) before I got there, she is circling and showing other neuro signs. She fell from her nest last evening and hit a winder, OF provided pedialyte and took to vet this afternoon, I got her about 2 hours after she was dropped off (for some reason I find myself going to the clinic ASAP after getting a call...).

I always think to avoid heat with head injury IF possible. With a young squirrel like that, you really have to add heat so it is a moot point. Try for the least amount of heat needed to keep her suitably warm.

What a nasty knot on that sweet baby's head. Poor thing!

I too would provide low heat.
BUT if you have a "heavyish" stuffie I would put tons of fleece in with her,
and put the stuffie on top of her.
She can easily crawl out if she gets too warm, but I find that the additional weight on the fleece
is almost like mom being with them and keeping them warm with their weight.
Again, I'm SO glad this little girl has YOU! :blowkiss

Ok, thanks for confirming what I was thinking! :thumbsup

Thanks Nancy, I did dose her already and hoping, waiting.. praying she shows signs she is getting some relief. I was just thrilled that after all the head / spinal injuries that I finally have some pain relief I can provide along with the steroids!

She will need all the prayers TSB can send...

Yes she needs pain refief.
Many prayers as always coming for
your little girl. If anyone can pull her through
it's you.
Regardless, she's in exactly the right hands
whatever her fate. :hug

This is a great suggesting and is working well... glad I stocked up on fleece! The stuffie weight does seem to have calmed her quite a bit. :hug

Spanky, this little girly needs a name...but God and his angels will know who we are praying for anyway.

:Love_Icon Many prayers for your tiny angel. I pray the tramadol brings some relief and she can overcome her injuries.

Her name is "Windy".

I make a "donut" of fleece and put them inn the middle with their head raised up by the fleece. That way you can keep their body warm and their head on the cooler side.

Windy is still fighting. She has been provided some relief by the Tramadol, but she randomly starts crying out... arching her back. It is heartbreaking.

It seems to be happening less often as time passes and I am holding her as much as I can. The swelling has not started to come down, but it is not getting any bigger either.

She has passed a few mommy poos and I'd prefer if she were peeing more regularly for me.

Windy's mom was keeping her well feed, chubby little girl! That is going to be a big help with the fight she is facing over the next few days....
